Uhm, I remember this and that is not what happened, Newt. If you were exonerated then why were you forced out of Congress? Oh, and if you were exonerated then why would you reimburse the legal fees. You make no sense.

Jebus!! That's a whopper you're tellin' there, Newt.

Well I'm sure the liberal media will get right on proving that wrong with the facts. Since they are the biggest media outlet and the most trusted, I'm sure Fox will lead the way, right?

But... but.. but he was a history professor and he's smart and stuff.

Hello?

Why would anyone be surprised that Gingrich who was caught lying to congress would also lie to the public during an election?

Could the Democratic Party be lucky enough...really lucky enough to have Newt Gingrich as the Republican Nominee? If this happens...it would be the greatest gift ever to the President's re-election campaign.

Apparently he admitted later in the interview that he was wrong. Perhaps Candy Crowley had something to do with that?

The scary part is some people actually like his attitude. They like how direct he is because they mistake it for strong leadership. The problem is he isn't a leader, he's a controller and a professional victim. He wants to tell justices what to decide and whenever anybody criticizes him he insults them and accuses them of bias. The fact that some people are taking this guy seriously is frightening. He's a sociopath who shouldn't be allowed to be in power over anything.

Yup. Many voters know exactly nothing about the stuff being debated by those they're voting for, so they presume the jackass who sounds loudest and surest knows what he/she is talking about while the other one is just trying to hide something. Generally, these people have simple minds and cannot envision anything other than simple solutions.

Why yes, I'm calling the electorate dumb. You'll find that James Madison framed the US government around that same presumption.

I've never heard him say anything that makes him sound like a sympathetic character. No jokes (that weren't mean spirited), no references to popular culture, no warm stories or listening to the problems of others. At least Reagan and Bush had some personality that led you to believe you could interact with them like normal people. Clinton and Obama are masters of connecting with others. I can't imagine Newt doing anything that doesn't make him seem like an insufferable ass. Like you said, he's a sociopath.

This (new window) says all charges were dropped but one, and they decided he wasn't breaking that one "any more" and moved on.

Gingrich is paying $300,000 for the costs of an ethics committee investigation after admitting last year he made inaccurate statements during a lengthy probe into Democratic allegations that he misused tax-exempt donations. Gingrich denied the charges but submitted to a reprimand by the House.

Same article from 1998.

Shut up Newt, that isn't what happened. You were the first Speaker of the House to be disciplined for ethics violations, and you even admitted to breaking some of the house rules. Scumbag.

I could have used some of you as Facebook friends, as I just had this conversation with a former high school classmate whose answer to anything I said was, "The evil media would never ask Obama about this stuff. Why not?" Well, perhaps because Obama never faced paying $300,000 in sanctions....

yeah, but that's just the Republicans. the REST of the country isn't locked into the echo chamber. At least I don't think so anyways.

I'm pretty sure you are right. Playing to these hyper partisan crowds is a big mistake, IMO. But divorce is "no big deal" these days. If the far right "family values" groups are willing to ignore his scummy-ness, who's to say the average person won't give it a great big "who cares?".

Sorry. Drifted off to the cheating stuff.

the Republican 'family values' candidate is a three time divorced egomaniac with a history of ethical violations and temper tantrums that would make a 2 year old feel ashamed. THIS is what they think can defeat Obama?!

Does anyone else think this idea that Newt is a "great debater" and will really challenge Obama is silly?

He is great throwing out what the far right people in the crowd wants to hear. That approach will fall flat in a debate where the other person actually gets to challenge his assertions.

I really wonder, sometimes, if this is a secret bet within the GOP high-rollers to beat the spread, so to speak, of how badly they will lose to Obama this year. If Newt runs, I'll know for sure that these things are fixed.

But then they tried to win last time with the previous reigning champions of fail so eh ... nothing really shocks me anymore.

well...we might be getting ahead of ourselves here. Gingrich might get paid a lot of money to drop out of the race and throw his support behind Romney.

Especially since Saturday, as the Romney Camp so graciously pointed out, was the 15th Anniversary of the House's vote to formally reprimand Gingrich for his conduct. Though, really, with all the anniversaries Newt has to remember, maybe it's not so surprising one slipped his mind

At this rate, Obama could run the table and win all 57 states,

BTW, Newt. People who are exonerated don't get ordered to pay court costs. Everybody knows that.
