The article mentioned they find drugs too. Just one of the few perks this thankless job offers, unless of course they turn it all in to the proper authorities. Wink wink.

"It's really high pressure and a lot of stress because the seasonal people want the beach to be perfect, just like the picture they have in their mind," Moore said. "They don't want a weed or a piece of gum out there."

I mean, really? High stress you say?(rolls eyes) This guy is burned out, he needs a vacation on a beach somewhere..o wait

I've seen some strange thing wash up on the beach, but cannot figure out how an engine block could be one.

I would assume trash and weird shiat washes up on every beach. More so if the beach is near a metropolitan area

Back in the 70s, they banded together hundreds of thousands of tires and dumped them offshore to make an "artificial reef". Surprise. Coral didn't like to grow on flexible, petroleum-based rubber. Now, the tires are coming loose, washing back and forth on the sea floor, and killing the reefs that are there. It's going to take millions to remove the tires and repair the damage. They were removing the tires using Navy divers, but they got interrupted by a couple of wars. Supposed to start hauling the tires up again in the spring.

\It's not nice to fool Mother Nature.

Not yet, but if they find one they should just use explosives to get rid of the carcass.

I once got kicked off Deerfield Beach 'cause the DEA was picking up a bunch of square grouper*, so I'm getting a kick out of this article.

That reminded me of the whale that exploded in a city in Taiwan.

I visit Ft. Lauderdale most years (Silver Seas Resort, a real '60's type place, and I always envied those workers. Not quite so much anymore, but meh, it might beat being a warehouse rat, even if my job is cushy for a warehouse... love that beach...
