Well, shiat.
Got friends traveling though there. Hope they take it off satellite radio enough to hear the forecast or just floor it to Florida.

Apologies.

Weather can be dangerous.

It might be God talking to you, amirite?

;)

Well dammit, it's not nearly close enough. With some luck, I won't have to worry about this week's furnace installation... but not likely.

/so long as my dogs are okay, though

Someone did read the article. That map looks a lot the like the New Madrid fault damage estimate maps.

Last night was freezing drizzle and now a tornado watch. Mother nature is having mood swings again.

Oh, and then there's that mass coronal ejection due tonight or tomorrow so your radio, computer and car will cease working all at once.

Is that that M class one they were talking about a few days back or an entirely different one I haven't read about?

That's happening in the western middle east.

That's not the Midwest! Virtually all of that red area is in the South.

So east of the middle of the country is "eastern midwest"?

How about just "mideast"?

Let me help out the coastal dwellers.
The far right is the Eastern US, to the left of that is the Mid-eastern US, then we have the Central US, THEN comes the Mid-West, and then the Western US. I know its hard to imagine, but seriously, not everything between the Eastern coast and California is "The Midwest".

Thank you. I was feeling dumb cause I was sitting there thinking "Oh, hmmm. I didn't know that. We're East AND West at the same time".

Nope, you're plain wrong. The Midwest is to the East of the "Central" US. Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, all those places. The name goes way back early in American history, when anything west of Illinois up until you hit California was mostly unsettled by whites. It was all just "The West"

Checked the current conditions.. low over GA, cold front east, stationary west, warm front out of TX moving E & NE, cold air from the north..... yeah, could get exciting... check your house restraining straps, folks,,,,,

Thanks, subby. I live on the border of this mess and hadn't seen the warnings. I live not far from last year's massive outbreak in April. February is also a bad time for us. I'm heading to the basement now to check my supplies of Cheetos and Diet Coke.

Civil_War2_Time: Can't find that it's a PDS, but it'll be interesting to watch from afar.

PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) is enhanced wording for watches. As of now, no watches have been issued. Latest mesoscale discussion does indicate a watch is likely. And, the day 1 convective outlook does mention "widepread severe weather" and a special public statement was issued. I'll bet Memphis southward through AR, wrn MS and nrn LA end up in a PDS watch before too long. 70 dewpoints along the coast this morning with a strong low level jet is very juicy and dynamic for January.

damn wind here in sw Oklahoma is carrying all the topsoil picked up in the Texas panhandle and it looks like a major fire. right now it is almost 70 degrees here and that front is supposed to hit so the west/southwest winds are going to turn west/northwest and the temps are going to drop like romney's numbers in South Carolina.

We'll be fine here in central Illinois, they are just saying we'll get some thunderstorms here.

I've always thought it was dumb, but places like Michigan and Iowa are generally called the "midwest" despite the fact that they're in the north north-eastern part of the country.

It's juicy for sure. I'm in hill country tx and it's 80 here. They have the moisture for it to work, and I bet it will.

CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) is typically lower during winter severe weather outbreaks than spring. The jet dynamics make up for the lack of CAPE. 100+ KT jet will be swinging through the risk area soon making for some impressive helicities(amount of rotation/spin that a upward moving parcel undergoes)

Case in point, last year at this time in Alabama (new window)

I'm jealous. Weather in Arizona is monumentally boring. Maybe two or three fun storms a year during the monsoon season. And that's about it. I'm embarrassed to say I got a little giddy last night because it got a little windy!

Interesting.

When I Weenersed earlier, Little Rock had a little cell far away, but they (WU) said between 5-8 for explosive development in that area. SE of there looks like it might get pounded.
