Alabama's unemployment rate continues to drop amid state-wide enforcement of a new immigration law, despite Democratic efforts to block and stigmatize the popular reform
But did wages rise?

this is what I've been talking about.
supply and demand? how the f*ck does it work?
and wages will rise only when workers become so scarce that employers are competing with eachother for talent.
but seriously, lets stop importing 2 million surplus workers a year to compete with ourselves please. we no longer need to find people to fill out the pacific coast. this is not 1908. we probably automate away a couple million jobs permanently every year anyway. immigration policy should be dictated by improving employment rates and wages for all americans.

Who could have guessed that cracking down on the businesses that employ illegal immigrants would cause illegal immigrant populations to leave. Oh, right, everyone. Everyone knew that.

Enforcing the law works, who would have thought?
That kind of tears a hole in the claims of a certain pro-amnesty employer's association in Arizona. The one that brings guest workers in to undermine US citizens.

I want to know if there was a rise in illegal immigrants becoming legal immigrants. My theory is, "fix your shiat". If you need to fill out some forms, fill the goddamn forms out and be here legally. It isn't some impossible task.

Good to hear. Now lets get the other states on board and make it impossible for illegals to find work. Eventually they'll get word that sneaking into America illegally isn't going to cut it and will go through the proper channels.

Shame it can't come to other states soon enough. Of all the laws that catch on in the South, this is one I'd like to see catch on in the North. Stop trying to pass RTW, pass an SB1070 law faster than AZEIR can come to try to kill it, and rejoice as the public supports you.

Good to know that in December and early January, just in time for the Christmas sales in line with an improving economy, that the crack down on illegal immigration was the thing that lowered unemployment.

Democratic politicians and activists try to create controversies over the issue, partly by portraying bipartisan efforts to curb illegal immigration as
racist.
For example, numerous Democrats have declared that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's call for immigration enforcement is
"extreme."
Translation: "We're going to call any criticism of our immigration approach an attempt to 'portray us as racists.'"

The opposition to this is downright funny! Hey, it's a coincidence! This is racist! Really people? They are ILLEGAL. Rather you like them or not, they are not operating within the law. And by "they", I mean the illegal immigrants AND the employers. Yes, when you remove the cheap illegal labor, the jobs will be filled by legal workers, whether they be white, brown or black.
And for the support, don't go cheering to loudly just yet. There are logical consequences for this. When businesses can't get that cheap labor, costs WILL rise. Rather it be in the form of lower cap wages or higher costs of goods and services. American businesses haven't shown a penchant for just earning less and sucking it up.
Still, this is what should happen. It's a slap in the face to hard working Americans and millions of immigrants who arrived here and when through the legal process. Just because some people can jump a border, work cheaply (for the US), and send their money back home doesn't make them right or desirable.

this. and the unemployment rate from what i have read to understand are those people collecting benefits. there are countless people out there whose benefits have run out and can't find work. and even if the illegal immigrant rate drops, how many god fearin' bible totin' pickup drivin' white folks are actually going to go out and work in the areas that the illegals were more than willing to do?
sad thing is, I believe here in Oklahoma 2011 was kind of a litmus year since all republicans got voted in in 2010 and they were just waiting to see how other states were handling anti immigration before they start introducing their own crazy "get the brown people out now" types of laws. Our female governor Fallin has stated she wants to enact similar legislation like Arizona and Alabama to deal with the "rising illegal immigrant" problem in the Sooner State. And other than court challenges, there is nothing to stop her with both sides of the state legislature republican controlled as well as a republican Lt. Governor, AG and several right leaning judges on the state's supreme court.

SB1070 didn't go after employers. It was pretty much just racial profiling to try and catch illegal immigrants on the street. That's why it was stupid. Alabama's law included that but
also
put in strict requirements for hiring and employment that threatened the businesses who hired those illegal immigrants. Alabama's illegal immigrant population up and disappeared, Arizona's did not.

It's the middle of winter. Alabama is warm, but not like "it's summer in the southern hemisphere" kind of warm. That's where the fruit is growing now. Bill was signed into law this summer and the enforcement didn't really start until this fall.

Keep telling yourself this. We had a lot of missing fruit-pickers during the season, actually. Those jobs that were filled by illegals? Again, I don't see more legals doing them. Any of them. Just fewer people doing them.

I thought it actually had something about the employers getting their licenses taken away or fined or whatever. I can't remember if that particular judge cut that bit. some judges left those provisions intact, others said they were an encroachment on federal power.
