Does anyone have good underwater terrain maps of that area?

They say there is a ledge the ship might fall into, not too far away.

But how far away is it? And it the bottom rocky, sandy, coral?

I understand it's a marine preserve, and I know shiat about marine engineering, I am just curious why they haven't taken a barge of rocks and dumped them under the ship to form a wedge or chock.

Titantic is the worst movie evar and I've never understood the whole cruise thing. Never understood the attraction. It seems like a hyper-guided tour. I would feel trapped and would freak at the basic lack of control over simple decisions that you give up on a cruise. Too much of a control freak I guess.

haven't we already been through this? This ship is SEVENTEEN STORIES HIGH UPRIGHT. It's over 3 football fields long the long way.

A barge of rocks? You seem to just be unable to grasp the size of this particular vehicle. Humankind has never build anything to rescue something like this, mostly cause we were just impressed we could build it in the first place.

Figure out how many rocks you need to dump to wedge the ship in place.

Consider that the depth drops to 100 meters and the ship is a good 400 meters long. So even without know shiat about Marine engineering you need somewhere in the range of:

100*100*400 / 2 = 2 million cubic meters of rocks (assuming that the base of your wedge equals the height).

The standard shipping container has a cubic capacity of 192.55 cubic meters. So that's 10,387 cargo containers of rocks. Which is over 50% the cargo capacity of the Emma Maersk, the world's largest active freighter (she can carry 18k containers). I'm sure they can totally get the Emma Maersk unloaded, loaded her up with rocks and on station before the Concordia slides off. Or you could drain the oil. Guess which is a lot easier?

You don't give up too much control. I mean you can't tell the captain that you want to stay in Cancun an extra day or reschedule main meals but you can get food and booze and gamble 24/7,

On a different note the captain is claiming the cruise line wanted him to go on this route. I'm not sure whether to believe him but he claims the cruise line wanted to get close to this port to get some free publicity and that they had done similar drive-bys at other ports.

Anyway it looks like they got all the publicity they could possibly want.

Okay, so you're the FARK Hall Monitor.

Schooled by this how? When on the first night, I discussed ways I might think could be used to refloat it? That's comparable to discussing how to keep it in one place and not slipping off a ledge?

Also 2 million cubic feet is the absolutely estimate. As it assumes no loss and that the Concordia wouldn't just push the top of the triangle you formed off (which she likely would) and then roll down the slope of rock of the triangle you just built. In reality we're likely feeling the Emma Maersk up to capacity and perhaps filling one of her sisters to 50% capacity as well.

Other people who are more interested in math than me are answering your question. But you've been silly man from the start. Didn't you suggest blimps in the cargo hold at one point?

Enh, she'd only be in 100 meters of water and you could fish her up at your leisure with a pair of hulks. Assuming of course she doesn't break up after rolling down the slope (if she ever does dislodge off it). Given the price of scrap metal these days and the relatively shallow depth, I bet they fish her up if she doesn't break up too badly. Heck there are passenger ships out there that had been written off as constructive losses multiple times, refloated and are still in service.

Me neither. Anything on the ship you can do in Vegas or theme park or shopping mall. And you don't get to know any places because the visits are so short. The places I've enjoyed visiting the most are almost always the places I've been able to spend at least 3 nights.

I do see some of the conveniences of having everything in one place, but unless you're old or disabled and need the convenience, keep your lazy ass at home if you don't want to walk to find a restaurant and pack your bags once every few days.
