I wonder how much more kickback money it's going to take for them to just say frkkit and put EVERYONES name in a database?

2012-01-22 09:15:42 AM
Florida's been doing this for a couple years now... and it hasn't slowed down the meth labs any. They just shoplift the stuff instead of buying it, which I'm pretty sure is what they were doing to begin with,

2012-01-22 09:34:10 AM
Massachusetts has been doing this for years. Its annoying, but far less annoying that wandering through the cold/flu isle trying to figure out which of the 400 products will make you feel like a human being again.

2012-01-22 09:55:50 AM
Ah, the war on drugs.

Where you get put into a government database for wanting to get rid of the f*cking sniffles.

2012-01-22 09:59:35 AM
Bio-nic: put EVERYONES name in a database

Hasn't that already been done?

Tali: Florida's been doing this for a couple years now... and it hasn't slowed down the meth labs any.

It has helped the Mexican drug cartels make a lot of money selling meth, though.

Really? We've had this in Tennessee for years. Hell, they ID you to buy Robitussin now.

Kind of puts that 'Republicans are small government' bullshiat to rest when Tennessee did it long before Illinois, doesn't it?

Way to give the Mexicans a leg up in the meth trade, assholes

So THAT'S why "Breaking Bad" is still on the air.

Meh, this has been going on in Okla for a few years now. Damn meth maggots, make it a pain in the ass to get some sudafed.

/we all pay for the idiots in life

Thanks.

Meh. In Oregon you have to have a prescription to get any medication that contains pseudoephedrine.

2012-01-22 03:54:28 PM
What I find depressing is that there are a group of us here, at FARK, upset with these intrusions and find them upsetting.

And then there are our kids, who grow up with these intrusions and will think nothing of them (whether from gov't or companies.)

This Turing and Bell, this is what you have given us.

2012-01-22 04:00:03 PM
I'd rather have meth heads be able to buy sudafed by the gallon than be carded for cold medicine.

I came here to say exactly that. What's worse, when you do get the real stuff they look at you like you're a drug addict, like you have to justify your purchase of something that 5 years ago you could have gotten over the counter. Then they start the paperwork, all for a bottle of NyQuil that actually works.

2012-01-22 04:34:25 PM
If these people cooking this stuff were smart, they'd open up a drug store and just order as much cold medicine as they want.

I guess it may look suspicious if a town of under 1000 people goes through cases of meds every week

Isn't that what Kim Bassinger did with the town she bought? I thought that's how she ended up in the pen.

RoyBatty: Kim Bassinger

I'm pretty certain she didn't end up in prison. I know she had a couple of judgements against her. One was for pulling out of the movie, "Boxing Helena" and getting sued by the studio.

I was just kidding. She bought a town. It's not a bad use for a town, to use it to launder various activities.

*clicks link*

Yeah, more drug war shiat.

When are they going to wise/give/STF up?

It's better than the alternative of removing Pseudoephedrine from the market.

2012-01-22 06:02:45 PM
FTA: "The tracking program started as a pilot project in 2009 in several southern Illinois counties. Since then, police have found and seized 155 meth labs and made 231 arrests thanks to the pilot project, Quinn said."

That sounds like BS to me.

This. They're gonna get it anyway, why add a superfluous step for law-abiding citizens?

Don't blame the druggies for this; they're just doing what they're always done. Blame the "tough on crime" and "war on drugs" assholes.

I just picked up some Benedryl for a cold. Mostly congestion. it had Pseudoephedrin in it but I didn't have to give my ID. Very happy about that.

Yep. It really pissed me off when I had to provide my DL and SSN at Wal-Mart to buy my wife some cold medicine.

The general response here in Florida has just been not to buy the meds that require this process (not all do). Or suffer without.

To be fair, bradenton is a hotspot for meth and prescription drug abuse.

Yes, I know. (Palmghetto is even worse), but Metamucil? I don't know the recipe, but I don't think it's a meth ingredient. "This is awesome! I can stay awake for days, disassemble any appliance, fark like a porn star and still remain regular!"

Alright, be honest... Who was the metamucil for??

This will work as well as Illinois' Firearm Owner Identification Card helps them find criminals with guns.

2012-01-22 06:18:29 PM
I had to show ID to buy a can of spray paint at HD a couple months ago.

2012-01-22 06:20:04 PM
Wisconsin's already been doing this for a while now. Whenever I need to pick up some Sudafed, they make me show my ID and sign a statement that I'm not going to use it to make meth.

If I ever run into a meth addict or someone running a meth lab, I will personally thank them with a good, swift cockpunch.

I went to the pharmacy a couple of weeks ago to pick up some Dilaudid, Lorazepam and Sudafed. They didn't bat an eye at the first two, but I had to let them photocopy my Drivers License and sign a statement swearing I wasn't making meth so I could have dry sinuses.

I believe Missouri does the same thing.

And yeah, I often desire to do that as well.

Meth is one of those drugs with pretty much no redeeming qualities.

Javacrucian: Oh look, it's another intrusive law that will do nothing to solve the problem it's meant to.

The law worked better than I expected. Indiana meth cases dropped through the floor after this was implemented here a few years back. Still sucks when the whole family is sick and you can't buy enough meds to go around.

And fark you Nyquil for not making the REAL Nyquil-D anymore because of the hassle.

2012-01-22 06:26:11 PM
legalize it, regulate it, make it safe.

Keep the labs under control of people that know what they are doing, safely, away from houses and schools.

Licensed retailers that WANT to obey the law and not sell to kids

Allow the users to kill themselves in peace without bothering the rest of us. Or seek help without risking convictions, prison time, loss of professions or having their families confiscated by the state.

Just have someone else buy it for you, duh.
