You know what I think is cool? Slideshows! I hate being given lists that anyone can read quickly. Slideshows are way better, because it builds the suspense! I especially like slideshows on a website that implies there will be a list, preferably not a lengthy one, because all the people looking for gratification will be disappointed. This link is cooler than an overworked refrigerator in the arctic!

The usual suspects, with some semi-obscure albums the writer sprinkles in so he can use the word "seminal".

Massive Attack, LCD Soundsystem

I really wish they would stop trying to making hipster techno happen. Techno is terrible and it's taken over pop and rap.

came for big star and television, left satisfied. (and smug)

This list includes Dexy's Midnight Runners. If you need evidence that it's flawed, that right there is it.

\and I'm sorry, but as a fan of early Miles, I don't really get the fascination with biatches Brew

FlashHarry: came for big star and television, left satisfied. (and smug)

Being an REM and Wilco fan, I bought both those albums maybe 10 years ago. Was familiar with Big Star and like using them in mixes. Television sounded pretty dated and meh to me. I don't think I've listened to any of that album since. Maybe I should try listening to it again.

You messed it up Subby.... now that someone put them on a list of being the "coolest", they can't be cool anymore.

+1. Sketches of Spain would have been a much better choice.

Trans Europe Express is ok but gets boring after a while.
The best track on Trans Europe Express is Europe Endless.

I always liked Surfer Rosa more than Doolittle. But "Debaser" is their best song.

What a load of crap. "Dexies Midnight Runners"??? No.
I'm done with "ShortList". Their music critic has his head up his ass.

The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy & The Lash. Yup, defo deserves to be on the list, one of my all-time faves

2012-01-22 11:46:16 AM
They kind of lost it when they got to the 80's, and they have the wrong Outkast album on there.

Speakerboxx/Love Below was no where near Aquemini in either quality or coolness.

GypsyJoker: \appalling list

What's wrong with it?

2012-01-22 11:53:32 AM
not a bad list, though I really don't get the love Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space gets. It kind of falls apart after the first half. Lazer-Guided Melodies is a better album.

not really getting the comparisons between The Xx and The Jesus and Mary Chain, though I'm apparently the only one who thinks The Xx sounds like a Durutti Column-influenced Low.

you have to get beyond tom verlaine's warbly voice. if you're able to do that, "marquee moon" is one of the greatest guitar albums ever recorded.

No, you see...they said the coolest albums of all time...

Does it really need an explanation? I thought everyone understood that Led Zeppelin is uncool.

X--Los Angeles

Ramones--Ramones

The Who--Quadrophenia

Not a bad start. I always wonder why you can fin The Beatles and Rolling Stones on them? Must be because of popularity and not because it is any good.

There's nothing even close to obscure on that list. Actually, the word needs to be removed from music discussions entirely, unless the person using it has no concept of search engines.

Didn't even bother with the slide show.

Six months from now, the list will have radically changed once again.

Ummm - make it six weeks ...

I vouch for The XX's album.

They're damn good.

Try to listen to new music, you dinosaurs.
