Harv72b: Pratty: I think that, and I know this is crazy, even the BROWNS might be rising up a little, at least enough to contend with the #3 spot. Yes they were 4-12, but that was in a divison with 3 playoff teams, with losses by 7, 4, 7, 3 and 1. They actually had a pretty good pass D this year.

Yeah, but to be honest a big part of why they had such a "good" pass D was because they were so awful against the run. See: Ray Farking Rice going off for 204 yards against them. ;)

Yeah, but it's good enough that I'd say they'd still be good if their run D was worth anything. That Joe Haden kid looks really good.

Oh gawd, that movie came out when I was at my fourth duty station in the army. :(

/Who said I didn't like a little strangling? ;)

Just give a over/under of how many of those jokes either of you heard?

It's actually a farking hilarious movie--that just happens to be one of the more memorable lines from it. Probably the best "teen" movie ever made by anyone not named John Hughes.

DanZero: Intense on the server load there for hundreds of Farkers. It can't contain the Steelers greatness in addition to other threads I server here. Bandwidth gets reset on 2/8 so I have to kinda be good now :P

Ah, fair enough. I liked my explanation better, though. :P

Harv72b: See: Ray Farking Rice going off for 204 yards against them. ;)

To be fair, Ray Farking Rice gets farktons of yardage on just about everybody when given the chance. He's like the Ben Roethlisberger to other teams' drunk college chick run defenses, or something.

/...that was kind of wrong, wasn't it
//sorry

Yes they were 4-12, but that was in a divison with 3 playoff teams, with losses by 7, 4, 7, 3 and 1. They actually had a pretty good pass D this year.

If they got some actual recievers, some front 7 depth and a late round/free agent RB, they could contend.

/Fortunately they are the Browns

You know, I think you might be right. I still think Colt McCoy (why isn't anybody talking about him?) has the potential to be pretty decent, so I'm not writing the Browns off yet, especially if they do get some more depth/options for him to work with. So yeah, the whole division could potentially be really tough.

/right now though I'm more worried about the Ravens (like always) and the Bengals
//unless Dalton and Green seriously regress this off-season, I have a feeling that team could cause some trouble
///those kids are pretty good.

I sure hope they don't regress! They probably won't get much more offensive help than they already have, aside from maybe a good RB, so if they do my Bengals are prolly messed.

Colt McCoy is really underrated. When you look at the team around him(A team that started it's third string RB at times and never really had a running game and whose top reciever is Greg farking Little), he did pretty damn good. I really hope that we see them give him options to throw to or hand off too rather than just replace him.

Harv72b: Can I just point out that if Lee Evans holds on to the farking ball in the end zone, I probably nail only the winner but the exact freaking score??? With the exception of Rice having a big day, pretty much everything that the Ravens needed to happen in order to win, happened. Somewhere in this thread is a post I made about needing two more turnovers to win the game...check. Flacco having a strong outing...check. Defense containing Gronk & Hernandez? Well...enough. Yet it's all for naught as the Pats mount one final drive to take the lead, Evans drops the ball in the end zone (in all seriousness, nice play by the NE DB), and then Cundiff shanks the kick that would've sent it to overtime.

You were within any reasonable margin of error considering how close the game was , cold comfort I'm guessing.
.
Patriots were lucky enough to win a game that could have bounced either way on the tiniest of variations but don't let that ruin a season where the Steelers get beaten twice.
I learned my lesson from 18-1 , you're a lot better off if you appreciate the successes along the way rather than just thinking about that final loss. 31 out of 32 teams end up disappointed to some degree but only a few are good enough to be a bounce away from the Superbowl

Hey, for their sakes (their fans' sakes, really), I truly do hope they turn things around. I mean, my God...they've got two perfect blueprints in their own division on how to build a consistently winning franchise (and the Bengals making some steps now too), but they just can't seem to get anything going there. You're dead on about Haden, though...just remains to be seen if they can keep him beyond his rookie contract (and btw, he's originally from Maryland).

Huh, so he is.

And yeah, they've got two great blueprints(IMO the Steelers are one of the best blueprints in the league to build off of) and even the Bengals are showing how it's done. Haden's contract has four years left on it though, I think they could get a playoff caliber team in 2-3 years with a few FA signings and smart drafting. I think one of their biggest obstacles is playing in the AFC North, with two perennial playoff threats and another up and coming one, it's going to be a tough road for 'em.

It'd be awesome if they did, though. Even if they are rivals I just can't bring myself up to hate on the Browns. It's like picking on the sick weak kid in school, it just feels wrong.

Hey, I love Ray Rice in a totally platonic way was much as anyone does, but he should never rattle off 200 yards against a team. He's got sick moves and that low center of gravity, but he doesn't really have the mass to run people over and he doesn't have the speed to break it outside against most defenses. I'd love it if his trainer can convince him to cut 15-20 pounds over the offseason and focus on speed training...going from memory, he had at least three 50+ yard runs where he got tackled from behind before he could score this season.

Nah, I hear you...it's a pretty nice luxury to be a fan of a team where you can be disappointed at a close loss in the conference championship game during your fourth straight playoff run. Nothing but pride in my boys, and for the most part we're still a young team (with a few obvious exceptions).

I have a feeling they're only going to get better, and quite frankly that scares the shiat out of me. ;) I mean, I'm not ready to crown anybody's ass yet, lol, but I have to say I was very impressed by their performance as rookies - IIRC, Dalton didn't seem to get really rattled against the Steelers D, and Green just looked like an athletic freak out there. (I know those aren't the only two guys on the team, but they're the ones I noticed most, and I have a feeling that combination could light stuff up in a pretty big way.)

Re: McCoy, I think you're absolutely right. He hasn't had much to work with, and so hasn't really been able to show his capabilities since the whole team seems to have been struggling. I do think he has potential and would like to see him get a chance to develop that (preferably against non-divisional rival teams, lol). Seems like a nice kid, too, although I realize that doesn't mean jack in terms of ability. :) All in all, as much as I'd like my Steelers to take the division title every year, I think it means more when you do win if you have to fight for it, and talk about worthy opponents! :) It's gonna be interesting to watch the AFC North over the next few years.

My sister-in-law hates the Manning brothers, so I haven't told her about this, lol. However, if it comes to that, I can always give her the explanation I provided earlier upthread (basically, that Mannings are preferable to Harbaughs, at least for SB purposes this year). ;)

@ Beckscellent: Yeah, he looked good in the first Steelers/Bengals game at least and A.J. Green looks like he could be Calvin Johnson 2.0

My biggest worry is they won't get a lot of help: The defense is good, but their RBs and wideout cores worry me. They seem to think Bernard Scott might be able to take over for Benson, but I haven't seen much come out of Scott, so I really hope they grab a RB early in the draft(LaMichael James in the 3rd or maybe Montee Ball in the 2nd or, if he's still there/they wanna trade up, Trent Richardson in the first?). The wideout situation worries me, assuming Simpson doesn't get jailed and force them to get a new #2, because I can see Simpson becoming the new Chris Henry. Great athletic talent but huge off the field problems.

And I like that we have a lot of guys I think make excellent #3s and allow us to go wide(I love Andrew Hawkins in what I saw and I thought Jordan Shipley was a steal), but none of them are #2s and I don't quite trust their offensive drafting yet(Though the Green/Dalton picks gave me a lot of hope). So I just reeeeally hope that they get some help or we could see Kitna/Johnson 2.0 instead of Stafford/Johnson.

Well guys (and gals), it's been fun hanging out this afternoon/evening, but I do have to work tomorrow (er, later today) so I'm going to head to bed. :) Congrats to all the teams that played today - it's an achievement to make it this far, and I think the fact that both games were so close attests to the talent of all four teams. Great job by all, and congrats on a great season.

I may or may not be back here for the Pro Bowl (oh who am I kidding, even if I don't watch it I'll probably hang out here just to chat with you lovely folks :)), and then I'll probably be back for the Super Bowl (and/or Puppy Bowl). :) Y'all are good people and I'm glad to virtually know you and hang out online. :) Stay safe, have a good week, and I'll catch you later.

A few tweets from the Ravens:

Ray Rice: Ravens Fans I love you all thank you all for the support through the highs and lows #Ravens

Terrence Cody: Thx for the tweets twitter fam

Torrey Smith: Sorry y'all..that is a tough one...we win and lose as a team and we will be back...
This offseason I'm gonna grind so hard...I'm gonna give the NFL hell...watch the improvement

Lardarius Webb: Shout out to my followers. And thanks to all the ones who believed in me even when things were not going right! I wanna be a Raven 4LIFE!

From the team Twitter: WR Lee Evans: "The most disappointing part of all this is that I feel personally that I let everybody down."
C Matt Birk: "For whatever reason, it just wasn't meant to be. That's the Joe we see every day. It certainly wasn't surprising by any means to us. I'm proud of him, proud of the way he played.""
K Billy Cundiff: "I get paid to make field goals I don't get paid to miss field goals."
LB Ray Lewis: ""I'm hungry again. I'm thirsty again. Is this my last time as a Raven? Absolutely not. I don't have to back Joe right now. Joe played a heck of a game in a championship football game."

I guess the big "news" being that Ray Lewis is definitely coming back next season, and Lee Evans & Billy Cundiff both manned up. Oh, and if Torrey Smith really does improve that much in 2012, he's gonna be hell on opposing DBs. Matt Birk was quoted as saying he's going to think it over before deciding on retirement or coming back for another year.

Although the baseball team moved to San Francisco after the 1957 season, the football team continues to use "New York Football Giants, Inc." as its legal corporate name,[1] and is often referred to by fans and sportscasters as the "New York Football Giants".

/I've given up figuring out the admins' mindsets. I get greenlights on crap I thought would never go and reds on what I think are the brilliant ones.

Heh, nice one. I'm pretty sure my one and only greenlight was due to the magic words "butthurt Steelers fan," lol. ;)

/hey, I can make fun of myself and my team, I still love 'em :)
//also I never really doubted that Ray Lewis would be back for another year. He might be slowing down a little, but love him or hate him, dude's an animal.
///thanks for posting those tweets Harv, nice insight - and for what it's worth, the idea of Torrey Smith improving even a tiny bit scares the fark out of me, lol. He is already really good (damn him)! :P
////feel for Evans and Cundiff though, I kinda want to hug both of them. :(

"Advice: While manscaping, make sure anything that CAN be pulled taut IS.. my balls look like De Niro at the end of Taxi Driver #bloodymohawk"

"I believe fiance' is a french term that means 2x per week TOPS."

"hey... guy on the buffet line dropping the tongs all the way in... good luck driving home on four flats #notonmywatchmotherf*cker"

"I sleep in buff.. somehow this morning I woke up with a "made in China" sticker affixed to my groin. Gross Domestic Production is way down."

That's pretty damn funny.
