actually now that I think about it, the Devils could host a Winter Classic at RedBull Arena (MLS specific arena walking distance from The Rock)

I'd pick Rutgers Stadium first, double the seating capacity.

FriarReb98: TCF couldn't sell beer during that game because none of their concessions equipment is operable in freezing conditions. If their system is insulated at Target, they'd make up the profit from the smaller seating on concessions easily. Besides, being downtown like that is cooler visually than being in the middle of the Twin Cities campus.

They only sell beer at TCF in certain (expensive) sections, not the whole stadium. I believe that was the bigger issue as they couldn't get the U to budge on that.

The Twins play in early April (can be damn cold) and late September/Early October (can be damn cold), I'd think they can handle it. They have nice heaters along the concourses as well for fans to warm up.

Polish Hussar: The rumors I've heard are that Ilitch wanted it held at Comerica (he owns the Tigers in addition to the Wings), but the NHL wanted a shot at an attendance record for largest crowd at a hockey game, currently held by a Michigan/Michigan State game held at Michigan Stadium (I was there, go me!). The rumor is that since Michigan Stadium got the game they're going to hold the GLI outdoors at Comerica.

So in other words, blame Betteman. Got it.

\though the GLI thing makes me think... it'd be farking sweet to do the Beanpot at Fenway.
