Some of those were absolutely brilliant, like Clint Eastwood as General Zod. Others were ridiculous, like John Wayne as Superman.
All and all very enjoyable.

I would totally go see "The Hangover" with that cast
Jerry Lewis as Allen! So much win!

Very good, but a couple of anachronisms, like the tower in Die Hard being a modern skyscraper rather than a 1960s or 70s building. And the Saab in the James Bond film is only a couple of years old!

Now I really want to see some of those!
BTW, parts of that retro 5th Element poster were taken from this 70s poster:

When CGI gets there, we're going to see a new phenomenom in Hollywood movies:
The premake.
Which is exactly what these posters are.
CGI for their looks + Vocaloid for their voices = Immortal and reusable classic actors.

Heck, I'd go as far as say that with such technologies, movies will be or have the capability to be a
Choose Your Own Cast
affair.
I can see it:
You buy the HyperDefinition-Disc with the regular cast.
The Deluxe version comes with two sets of options for you to play with: "Hmm, I wonder who would do a better job, Will Smith or Tom Cruise?"
Then you can buy more actors and actresses as downloadable content.
"What would Heath Ledger's Joker would be like on Batman 89 but instead of Keaton use Val Kilmer."
"Mmm, Sean Connery is the ONLY Bond, that's what I use with my collection."

Those were pretty good. I liked the
Pulp Fiction

Fifth Element

Bond

All over the map as far as their timeline is concerned though. Hell, "Cassius Clay" would not have been appearing as himself in a Martin/Lewis film.

Oh wow, I didn't know the "term" was already coined (not that it takes much to figure it out), but it's funny when that happens XD

Seriously though, that will be cool, Its probably technically if not economically, feasible to do with computer model based animation right now.

Oh God. Somewhere a Hollywood executive just jizzed himself and doesn't know why.
This is absolutely going to happen with the current crop of Hollywood stars 50 years from now, who are getting scanned in for the CGI being done in some movies now. What if Zoe Saldana turns into a super-duper mega movie star? James Cameron probably has every inch of her body stored on some hard drive. They could do pretty much anything they wanted to with her in a CGI movie.
You watch: Some movie star is not going to realize that the contract he signs with Universal allows them to use his image in future movies in perpetuity, with minimal or no compensation.

"What if those modern blockbusters were made in the 1950s?"
"...re-imagined - as classic movies from the 1950s and 60s."
"recent Hollywood films as if they were released two or three decades earlier"
So...as if they were from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Reminds me of a story I read once in
Issac Asimovs's Science Fiction Magazine
. The main character would use a type of VR set-up to remix movies like this. Not only could he remix with actors, settings, and soundtrack, he could even emulate directing styles. Like a Kubrick-style Moby Dick with a Pink Floyd track, starring 80s-era Eastwood as Ahab. I've been waiting for this kind of thing to happen. We could see some of these films with the original casting that didn't happen. Shirley Temple and Buddy Ebsen in Wizard of Oz, for example.
Meanwhile, it looks like I have some new wallpapers for my computer.

Not getting the Bond one - imagining the Bond series in the 60s isn't a stretch. Now, move it back to the 50s - Dirk Bogarde as Bond, Glynis Johns as Bond Girl #1, Audrey Hepburn as Bond Girl #2, Michael Redgrave as the villain, Sydney Greenstreet as M, and Alec Guinness as Q.
