I hardly think it's unique for a Republican politician to hate on the "liberal elite media". His opponent does it too.

/ both sides are bad, so vote Newt.

Maybe as President he will put the media on his political prisoner list along with judges who disagree with him.

In a sane world the Chairman of the Hazzard County, Georgia, GOP would be screening his calls to avoid the latest whining from Newt Gingrich about how he, Newt "wants to be the candidate for County Prothonotary this fall. Now I know I'm on fourteen straight election defeats and I know I came in 8th last November in the Recorder of Deeds race, losing to the Democrat, the Independent, the Green Party, the Dale Earnhardt Sr Is Still Alive Party, the Bring Back She's the Sheriff Party and a write-in for Al Qaeda, but I know my campaign strategy of 'fear everything, hate everything and always assume the worst' will bring home a victory!"

Newt has always tailored his message. He's a Rove wanna be but he thinks he's smarter than Rove.

Watch how much Rove publicly goes after Gingrich in the coming weeks. I would bet if Rove is super quiet there's a chance for a Gingrich nomination.

Good old Newt. A true American patriot, just like Aaron Burr and Jefferson Davis.

What kills me is how stupid it was for King to even ask him the question in the first place. Did they really believe Newt was going to react to it any other way? Particularly since Newt did the same thing to Juan Williams only a few nights earlier. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that Newt's team paid CNN to do it just so he could....

Hey, wait a minute.

The fact that Newt farking Gingrich is the frontrunner of the Republican primary (again) proves the utter retardation of the current Republican base as well as the ability of the hypocritical values voters to look the other way.

Don't like what I just said? Then prove me wrong.

Oh, c'mon, you haven't figure out his game yet? Newt's as relevant as a 3 day old dog turd baking on a NYC sidewalk. He's good at history and debating. Nothing more. Whatever way the wind blows, Newt's there, pointing fingers at the opposition. He gets the Nom, he loses, and sells a shiatload of books. How good of a person can you be when you have friends like neal boortz and herman cain?

Is there a candidate that would prove that the Republican base is smarter than we give them credit for, or does not make them all hypocrites in terms of values?

Romney or Christie. Neither are hypocrites, though I wouldn't vote for either of them myself, I wouldn't actively have contempt for anyone who does.

The truth is probably just as pandering and shameful. How do you get ratings up for the 99th debate?* It's not as if you could actually hype something beforehand if everyone has been doing it every other night for the last 3 months. Given the speed of 'reporting' on Twitter and Facebook, it could be possible to draw a large audience if the opening moments of your debate were raucous and 'newsworthy.' If enough of the already watching crowd 'reported' such an uproar, it may attract viewers to the remainder of the show.

*I'm working on the presumption that CNN is a corporate entity that cares only for profits, and that its profits are derived from advertisers, and that the higher the average ratings of the network are, the higher the average price for advertising is.

/I could be wrong, it has happened before.

Eventually he's going to hate everybody and that's no way to get independents to vote for you, and it's a good way to get liberals to show up to vote against you.

Although, it's sort of sad.... I would prefer people oppose him for less personal reasons like his terrible and destructive policy positions and disgusting lack of even basic moral principles...

No, I think this is right on the money. I don't really think CNN was paid off by the Gingrich team, because if they were, that would have been an even BIGGER story for CNN to tout. There was already hype built up to this debate, and what better way for CNN to juice up the ratings during, and after, the debate than to make it a Jerry Springer like event.

2012-01-22 08:20:52 AM
The CNN irony meter was redlined when Newt spent 3 minutes of his victory speech blathering on about the evil tactics of Saul Alinsky and his ilk.

You're correct, but for things that are obvious, they are obvious; and for things that are not obvious, they are not obvious. Most people have to be taught this.

Many people are stuck in a lower stage of moral development which only cares about following authority and believing that they and their peers will be saved, but others who don't believe what they believe in are punished. Strength of belief becomes more important than one's actions on earth. There are believers who act moral because it comes natural to them, but there are many believers who have to believe in reward/punishment in order to be moral and ,as history has shown, human beings have a hard time acting morally on their own.

Quite possibly true, but human choice and the simple lack of belief in one's own convictions all to often come in to play. People are often willing to vacate their own convictions if the reward is greater than the self inflicted guilt they may or may not suffer later on. I've always been one to severely question authority, only to find that those who represented said authority generally held themselves above the same standard and compromised themselves morally. Newt (as is nearly all politicians) is no different.

2012-01-22 08:42:58 AM
Newt may be the current favorite of SC Republicans (with a lot of help from crossover Democrat votes) but I don't think he's the current favorite among the US electorate.

Newt's a step up the ladder from most. I think he was a sociopath from the start. Although he disguises it well most times, his true self comes to the surface often enough to give him the huge dirty laundry basket he drags around.

I am still not convinced that he wants to win. I am expecting a full-blown Newt-plosion sometime soon.

it's just not the bashing of the "liberal media", but it's also the dog whistle of racial politics ("food stamp POTUS") and eluding to class warfare ("Bain Capital=corporate raiders) that makes Newt a regularly Silky Johnson of GOP politics.

Rove isn't going to be super quiet on Gingrich, because his nomination to the ticket would be a ripple effect of disaster ... from Senate elections, to House, to state elections all way down to local school boards.

Rove and the GOP are going to come out firing with all guns blazing this week. It will be interesting if Newt is able to turn this into "Republican Establishment don't want a real Tea Party Conservative" narrative.

2012-01-22 08:57:38 AM
Now that he has been embraced by the Jihad Republicans he needs to figure out when to pull off his jackboots and try for the Republican base which is slightly less retarded. Then if he gets them he can go after the librepubs by shooting off a toe or two. Then using Paula Deen's Southern Fried Butterballs dipped in gooey Kennedy White Sauce he will give ALL liberals the diabeetus so when voting comes they will be too busy wacking insulin to vote. The man is evil genius, just look at his female terminator wife and tell me you are not scared. Very scared!

They forgot the step where you use a bunch of unnecessary adverbs like "fundamentally" to convince the morons in your base that you're smart.

I swear most of Newt's speeches sound like he's a kid in school trying to stretch a one page paper out to four pages. Same goes for most right wing talk radio programs I've heard. Short on facts, long on filler words.

Maybe that's why Newt won last night. He's a living, breathing talk radio hate show.
