BFD. A lot of people, famous or not, do their own laundry. There's nothing heroic in the least.

And I really doubt he's one of them.

He not only does his own laundry, he does it with buttoned cuffs.

2012-01-21 10:55:27 PM
"Nah, I got this. I've seen the staff do it all the time."

How many people did he have to pay to set that up?

That looks like a motel laundry room, like at an extended stay place. Or an apartment complex laundry. I'd be very surprised if Mittens is staying at either on the road. It's far more likely this is staged and some upper level staffer set it up in the cheap motel they have the low-level staff staying in.

"OK - so, Governor, if you'd just hold the box like this... no, like... Governor... Governor, make it look like you're shaking the powder out of the end of it. The other end. No, the open end. Yes that end. Good. Right. OK - hold it there..."

Those look like cheap washers. That isn't the washer of a billionaire.

2012-01-22 12:01:41 AM
And yet he still manages to look so unnatural while doing it.

That's what I assumed, with the little one-use boxes and the industrial automatic paper towel dispenser. But I buy it; they are Mormons, after all. Every single Mormon family I have known love this hokey "let's get the family together and do something mundane" shiat. Truthfully, I find it kind of charming. I'm willing to believe this is legit, and I don't think I've ever believed anything about Romney.

Great camera angle..

THIS

Even if he does his own laundry when not on a presidential campaign I highly doubt he has time during the day to spend the time to do the laundry. He is running around whoring himself for votes right now and his trainers probably have every minute of his time accounted for.

Staged and why this is even a story is just pathetic

Why does his washing machine have a coin slot mechanism? Obvious staged photo is obvious.

It's a magic underpants washia
that stuff he's holding is his extra-sparkle magic powder.

He'd be better off against the Newtant with pictures of him doing his own wife, not laundry

Awesome. This means my wife and I, and my 12 year old nephew are all heroes, too. Boy do I feel special.

If you had magic underwear that took you to a mystical realm of eternal joy - as long as you were wearing it when you died - would you trust that magic underwear to just anybody? And would you get your son to help you set up a perfectly staged shot of you adding the detergent?

/Mitt's in the middle of a freakin' campaign for president. If he doesn't have someone to take care of mundane crap like laundry by this point, he doesn't stand a chance.
//I wonder if he separated his whites?
///I also wonder if Tide paid for that as a celebrity endorsement - "I only trust Tide to wash my magic underwear!"
/// And how did he happen to have enough change for the laundry and the detergent out of the vending machine?

Guy is on the road. Did you think he dragged a laundromat behind his bus?

It's amazing how badly a lot of the local dry cleaners will fark up a simple shirt job. I had an ex girlfriend who used to do my laundry for me - she did such a shiat job I eventually asked her to stop. You'd be surprised how badly people can screw up something as easy as laundry. I'm not surprised a guy as image conscious as Mitt insists on doing it himself, especially on the road.

2012-01-22 04:51:26 AM
Mitt really, really needs to stop pretending he's human. Nobody buys it and it makes the Bain attacks more devastating because it looks like he's trying to distance himself from it.

Mitt should embrace the rich tycoon image. He should be selling himself as a mighty business war-god who will rip the heart out of the recession and make America into a economic death star that will blast it's enemies with million dollar bombs that are filled with slaves that throw laser-guided diamond spears as they plummet to their death. He should be saying "No, I'm not a regular guy. Regular guys don't juggle billion dollar economic systems. A president has to and I did so vote for me you groveling peons."

Authoritarian-minded conservatives would eat that shiat up.

Does anyone honestly believe that this is a legit photo? Christ almighty, this is as phony as the creepy pedosmile he dons while other candidates speak at the debates.

Gingrich is a self serving narcissist. Santorum is a religious whackjob. Paul is a loon.

Romney is the only candidate who truly makes my skin crawl. There's a reptilian calm about him that unnerves me the same way the serial killers on the MSNBC prison specials do. Even Gingrich, insanely misguided as he is, can show a faint flicker of normalcy occasionally. Romney, on the other hand, only seems capable of mimicry; and the story of his animal cruelty is very much in line with this analysis.

:Cluephone ringing:

There is no such thing as a spontaneous public appearance (where a camera is present no less) on a campaign trail. Do you honestly believe that Romney doesn't have a personal assistant to handle his dry cleaning?

If you do, then consider yourself ineligible for politics. Also, pat yourself on the back for still having a heart.

I thought I read a while ago that his other four wives do the family's laundry.

contrapunctus: Do you honestly believe that Romney doesn't have a personal assistant to handle his dry cleaning?

Yeah, actually, I do. I have dealt with a lot of public figures. They are very conscious of their self image. When something is important to them, it isn't unusual at all for them to insist on doing it themselves. Mitt is all about the white shirt. That and the hair is his thing.

If you do, then consider yourself ineligible for politics. Also, pat yourself on the back for still having a heart.

I don't have a problem with either of those being true :)

You're right.

But you need to understand something here. To approach the campaign from that perspective requires a basic understanding of the mentality/humanity of the voters.

Romney reads daily polls the way a corporate scumbag reviews daily stock prices and, consequently, behaves in a way that reveals him to have the personality of a corpse. It's no big secret why Gingrich won big in SC. Compared to Romney's creepy lack of personality, Gingrich's 5 minutes of genuine emotional rage seems human.

//it's all a scathing indictment of how repulsive this field is altogether.

FTFY.

How do you think those "and he visited those wounded veterans without the media present" stories get into the media?

The only exception would be instances of public drunkenness or maybe if they cracked off a fart.

I can concede that, sometimes, a politician can be photographed doing something normal and human. But not Romney. And certainly not Romney a day after he gets his clock cleaned in a primary.

And DAMN SURE NOT ROMNEY a day after he gets his clock cleaned in a primary while he fends off accusations of being an elitist who's out of touch with working class voters.

This photo op is Dukakis Tank level bullshiat.

Not enough soap in the world to wash his dirty laundry.

2012-01-22 05:56:07 AM
I can PROVE this image is staged just by its contents:

1. Mitt is using the washer (usually wet when used) with sleeves still buttoned at the cuff (as DarnoKonrad mentioned)

2. He is using a vending machine box of Tide (powdered) detergent

2a. Anyone who has ever used powdered detergent and does laundry regularly knows that the detergent goes in first, then the water, THEN the clothes. Otherwise there can be chunks of detergent that don't break down.

3. "But he's holding a shirt while pouring in the detergent" does not fly because that means he is using an ENTIRE box of detergent for a single shirt. If anything, it leads me to believe that they think each item of clothing needs to be washed separately.

What kind of fiscal discipline can we expect from a man who purchases extremely overpriced single-load boxes of laundry detergent?
