You know what a good celebration might be?

2012-01-21 09:51:35 AM
Not counting a 23 year old man who just got shot at a River North Walgreens?

2012-01-21 09:52:19 AM
You know what other population of millions used to consider it a landmark when they went 24 hours without being murdered?

2012-01-21 09:52:43 AM
maybe they where all protesting S.O.P.A. that day

2012-01-21 09:53:13 AM
FTA :This is clearly the result of the tremendous police work of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department.

So what is going on every other day of the year?

This isn't satire, is it?

I just love that they want to take credit for this, like A) it's true, and B) it's some kind of monumental damned achievement. This reminds me of Chris Rock's "you're not supposed to go to jail". It also reminds me of something my dad used to biatch about. It's like when the defense sacks the QB and does some elaborate dance. Great job a-hole. So, should the O-lineman do a dance every time you don't get to the QB?

Anyway, why don't you guys ice the champagne until you can go at least a week. The Old West is shaking its head in wonderment at your current outlawry. Hell, newborn Tombstone is rolling over in its grave.

All their gun control laws real successful right?

What does that even mean?

"On January 18, for a 24-hour period, there were no shootings and murders in the city of Chicago," McCarthy said. "The last time we went a day without a murder or shooting was nearly a year ago in early 2011. This is clearly the result of the tremendous police work of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department."

So you want a day off huh? Well, let's just take a look at what you're asking for ok?

There are 365 days per year, making that 52 weeks. You already have 2 days off per week, leaving just 261 days available for work. Since you already spend 16 hours each day away from work you've used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days left to work. You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee breaks which accounts for 23 days each year, now leaving only 68 days available. With a 1 hour lunch break each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work. You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave, leaving you only 20 days per year available for work. We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days.

Look, we generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work and I'll be damned if you're gonna take that day off!

My mind is full. Time to take out the trash...

2012-01-21 10:15:19 AM
I knew I felt safer that day!

2012-01-21 10:15:50 AM
"While we are making progress," McCarthy said, "we still have work to do and will not be satisfied until we significantly decrease the number of murders in every community throughout the city."

Just want to decrease the murders, don't want to eliminate them altogether. I guess some people just need killing.

Thought, you have some of the strictest gun laws in the country. You also celebrate a single 24 hour period without someone being shot.

As Dr Phil likes to ask "how's that working for you"? Perhaps there is more than a little causation between the two?

It's all the illegal arms merchants in places like Elmwood Park, Riverdale and the like. Hard to enforce the 2nd Amendment when the towns around you are letting merchants flood the streets with handguns.

I'm going to be working right next door to that Walgreens. Maybe we should have a Fark party there.

not only the one at the Walgreens but one up in Roger's Park as well. So that's at least two dead. Who knows what the news from the south and west sides will be!

Peovo Utah is the most Republican large city in the country and usually has the lowest crime rate, I suspect the two are related.

Haven't read the article. If your excerpt is true: In a city of hundreds, it's nothing. In a city of millions, yeah, it is a pretty momentous occasion. You're absolutely right that the cops have NOTHING to do with it. The only way cops would have anything to do with it, is if they spent a day not filing any reports or following up on any reports of homicides. Then, 'the tremendous police work' would be technically true, because they just pretended a problem didn't exist and documented the day accordingly.

But cops are there to take care of shiat after a problem has occurred, not before a problem has occurred. I don't know what the purpose of bringing the cops into it would be, unless it's a major backhanded insult by the writer.

Enforce the 2nd Amendment by banning guns?

Some people can't handle the truth. The local concealed carry law did wonders at eliminating strong armed robberies even before the first permit was issued.

It hasn't really been that cold yet this winter, except for last Thursday, and even that wasn't all that bad.

In Chicago Jan 18-23: Snowstorm, then lake snows, cold.

Could this be why?? Folks were hunkered down and the ones out could not get their guns to firer because of the cold?

I was agreeing with you, right up until you pulled in the football analogy. How many plays are typically in a football game? Of those plays, how many end in a QB sack? 'Not getting sacked' is the typical thing. Getting a sack is a rare thing. Celebrating a rare thing makes some sense.

Well you don't hear of the daily multiple murders, rapes and shooting in places that allow guns like Texas (the border does not count non-citizens in the U.S.) or places like Montana..
This robbing and killing thing went sky high after they outlawed guns as the criminals were the only ones left with guns and no longer feared getting shot when the did home invasions and the such. Must be something to it.
I myself hate guns, would end up shooting my foot off.

Just making an observation not trying to argue or troll.

For the most part allowing for concealed firearm carry in Chicago won't lower the murder rate. 80-90% of the time the people who are being murdered in the city are carrying guns. They are criminals. Most of Chicago's murders are tied to gangs and drugs. If you aren't in a gang or in the illegal drug business in Chicago you have about the same chance of getting murdered as you do in any other city.

Now do I think that Chicago should allow people to legally own guns, yes. Do I think that they should allow concealed carry permits, maybe. But allowing Fark's ITG regiment to carry concealed fire arms isn't going to drop the murder rate at all. It may cut the robbery rate some, but it won't do anything for the murder rate.
