Only if you consider berating or beating the shiat out of an opposing fan to be the only options when seeing one.

Captain Steroid: Isn't this entrapment?

I'm not even a good armchair shyster, but I think it's entrapment only if the undercover cop instigates an action a 49ers fan would not otherwise perform. Providing a favorable environment in which a 49ers fan can become an asshat is not considered entrapment - the idea has to come from the cop, the the cop persuaded the fan into breaking the law, and the fan wasn't ready to break the law before the cop did what he or she did.

The fun part is watching the undercover cops single out the drunk 49ers fans, pull two out of the three actions above, and then claim "but I didn't do all three, so it's not entrapment" as the hapless 49ers fan is dragged to jail.

Then, the next time 49ers fans show up, the Giants owners & sponsors will whine that they couldn't sell beer or get a reasonable crowd reaction because no one wanted to be arrested by some underhanded cop - the fans that do bother to show up remain sober, sedate, and unwilling to cut loose for fear of a drummed-up arrest.

I like this trend. I hope more stadiums do this - within a decade, the NFL will crash for loss of income.

I think it's a good idea. People should be able to go to a sporting event without fear of being berated or possibly beaten.

Are there going to be cops in 49'ers gear, to catch the behavior going the other way?

Sooooo....you're saying yes it is, but only if they are wearing a Giants shirt?

I'm kidding people, lighten up!

No need. If the same cop (in the Giants gear) sees a Giant fan being unlawful, he can still make the arrest.

Really it just means the cops get to go to a free football game and have permission to beat, taze and spray one fan in the fourth quarter.

They don't need to go undercover for that.

A few years ago my nephew {wearing a Broncos jersey} went to a Chiefs/Broncos game at Arrowhead. Some drunk ass loser tailgaters in the parking lot were screaming & calling his daughter a whore - a three year old kid. He said he had to hold his hands over her ears walking through the lot. FWIW, my nephews were born & raised in Missouri. My sister-in-law grew up in Denver so they're Broncs fans. I'm in the beer business, so I support beer drinking. But if Billy Bob can't handle his beer, I think he deserves a beating or tasering for being an a-hole.

Think of it as a "fervent hope", not a "stretch." Football has become so ruled by rich owners & advertisers that it's basically a four-hour beer commercial, interspersed on rare occasion with individual plays - plays that must be individually reviewed to ensure that the bookies don't reward the wrong betters.

And that's the problem. Ideally, there shouldn't be a decision point based on for which team the offending asshat is rooting. If you're dressing the cops in Giants jerseys, you should also be dressing them in 49ers jerseys.

By dressing the cops in just Giants jerseys, I think you can make the argument that they are either entrapping Giants fans or unfairly singling out 49ers fans - I'm not saying that's what would actually happen, but I'm betting that's what an arrested asshat fan's lawyer will use as part of a defense.

There will be an entire stadium full of people in 49ers jerseys. Have you also considered the possibility that there WILL be cops in 49ers jerseys, but they're only announcing the presence of cops in Giants jerseys as an advanced warning to 49ers fans to be on their best behavior?

Yeah, but in their defense, it does sound like a hell of a good time.

Yes, because the only fans that show up to football games are drunk asshats.

I like football, but hate ass_holes. Therefore I don't think I will ever attend an NFL game.

I can't speak for all Packers fans, because I'm sure every teams has idiot fans, but I"ve never personally witnessed someone being harassed at Lambeau. Heck, a Vikings fan sitting in front of us a few seasons back bought us all rounds (a small group sitting around him, not the entire stadium, smartasses), then we returned the favor back and forth until we were all basically plastered.

I've never understood wanting to fight someone over the football team they support. I've gotten tanked at football games and have boo'd opposing fans before; but I never wanted to hurt them.

Scariest stadium I've ever been to was Arrowhead Stadium. I don't think the Missourians even show up to watch a game, they show up to drink and start shiat. Heck, I was wearing a Colts jersey and it was ruthless. I couldn't imagine going there wearing Broncos, Chargers or Raiders gear.

Every team certainly has asshole fans & I've seen fans (both home & visiting) in Texas or Cowboys Stadium be excellent to each other & I've seen them be awful. Your rooting interest in football is not a factor in assholism IMNHO. Either you're an asshole or not. The team of your choice is irrelevant.

It's been a well kept secret for years that 49er fans are now more unruly than Raider fans. I feel safer going to a Raider game than I do going to Candlestick Park. The days of the wine sippers occupying Candlestick Park are long gone and the Raiders have done a tremendous job of enforcing their zero tolerance policy for violence at games.

I went to the 49ers-Giants game in November, and the Giants fans were complete arseholes the entire game. I didn't see any fights or incidents, but if any of them got beat down, I can assure you they deserved it. Hopefully there's no violence or any brouhaha's at tomorrow's game, as I'd hate to have an in-the-stands- incident overshadow the 49ers first NFC championship in 17 years.

Wait, what? Saints fans are the least douchy of them all. I'm sure someone was walking through the tailgating section at the Superdome in a 49ers jersey, they'd be treated to free BBQ and beer just like everyone else.
