Because if it's an issue worth talking about, it's covered in the GOP debates.

Nothing else matters.

FTFA: "It's 2012, ignorance is inexcusable!"

It may be inexcusable, but it is also, unfortunately, rampant

Honestly, I have to agree w/ TFA. But then, I have looked at comments under the Politics tag, so no surprise on the ignorance of others.

/Probably includes me...

He didn't want people to know about NDAA and his role in it.

"Why did Obama shut down Wikipedia?"

Because Fark You! That's why.

/on a side note that was a very frustrating day. you don't realize how much you go to Wikipedia until they take it away. Happy I donated during their last drive.

And thus, Fark exists to collect it all.

Weaponizing stupid since 1970.

To be fair, Fox and Friends don't really get jokes that don't involve prat falls or blondes and vacuum cleaners...

Heh.. I had that thread going all day the other day on Twitter. It was killing me. Some teenager was going on and on about suing Obama for making him fail his exam.

you are a complete farktard.

You really live in a looking glass universe to be able to vote for people who actually are against the things you are for.

Obama was against the NDAA, I know that doesn't fit in your reality so you ignore it.

2012-01-20 08:22:59 PM
I mentioned it before in one of the other SOPA threads but I'll throw in another plug here for Evopedia (new window), an offline version of Wikipedia for Linux smartphones. Even though there probably won't be another blackout any time soon, there's just something cool about carrying around such a large chunk of knowledge on a tiny microSD card.

FTFA Geeks see stupidity as a problem easily solved by initiative: Just stop being lazy and you'll stop being stupid.

Bullshiat. All anyone has to do is go to the politics tab to see that retards aren't all lazy. Some of them expend massive amounts of effort to remain stupid. Maintaining ignorance in the face of the blatantly obvious isn't easy, you know.

From wiki on NDAA:

The National Defense Authorization Act is a United States federal law that has been enacted for each of the past 49 years to specify the budget and expenditures of the United States Department of Defense.[1]

That's one hell of a time machine!!!

You're a shining example of what TFA is talking about. New years eve Obama re-enacted it with a wonderful clause allowing for the indefinite detention of US citizens in their own country by the government for reasons of national security.

Link (new window)

Wake up people, between this and CItizens United (and SOPA) the legal footing of a fascist state is being laid in your back yard.

That's for sure. So many seem heavily invested in their ignorance, happily rolling in it as if a pig in mud. It's like watching someone thwack themselves in the nuts over and over again. It takes dedication.

What, pray tell, could Obama do about it? The bill passed with a veto-proof majority, and line-item vetoes are unconstitutional. It also passed at the last possible moment, so a symbolic veto would screw thousands of people working for our military (directly and indirectly) out of a paycheck.

The signing statement was the best he could do with the rider. Period.

And these people vote (theoretically)

/THAT is the scary part...

The thing is, whenever you try to educate someone as TFA suggests, and even if you do it in the most polite way possible, your average dumbass flips out on you with his/her retard-strength rage and yells at you about being an "elitist prick" and "you think you're smarter than me?!" before shutting down his/her tiny knowledge receptors entirely.

I agree. I never realized it until I was without it (I used Google cache as a go-around). Should I be gainfully employed at an above-subsistence salary during the next drive, I shall donate to keep it going.

Because his Commie Muslim radical Christian Wall Street masters told him to so they could hide his Kenyan birth certificate at one of the death panel FEMA re-education camps where we can't find it!

So he should have done....what? Veto a bill that had passed with a veto-proof majority? Used an unconstitutional line-item veto? Do a symbolic veto and screw thousands of military personnel out of their paycheck for as long as the political fight took?

I guess they wanted to blame it on Obama before Obama blamed it on the GOP.

...uploading them over a 28.8K modem, which wouldn't actually upload at 2.8kB. It was usually less than 1kB upload then...

if you're gonna write an article about ignorance and why you and other geeks aren't, it looks bad when you show you're ignorant about geeky terminology.

2012-01-20 11:29:18 PM
I'm incredibly critical of major news stations and especially CNN and their slide into crapitude. This article is... actually really good. And clearly written by a Farker. But no, It's trivially easy to be well informed these days. It's almost MORE difficult to hide in an echo chamber. But people still do it, willingly. What the hell?

I don't know what my point is because I've been drinking strong beer. But people. Don't be stupid. This means you.

Doesn't that mean that he would have to re-enact it next year? And so on and so forth?

I've learned to call them out.
Say this: "Ok then Lets just talk about it then. Why do you feel that way and what would be a better solution?"

I bust many of my conservative friends this way. Also, taking them to the "scene" of crimes ... aka I took one buddy with me on a job hunt. I bet him $100 he couldn't get a job at any fast-food restaurant. My has a good job, career, and college education -- and couldn't get a job at McDonald's. He was not happy shelling out that Benjamin, but I made him respect the unemployment process.

A geek's natural reaction to this is to sigh, shake our head and make references to the film "Idiocracy," (Which posits a world that has become populated almost exclusively by stupid people because all of the smart people stopped breeding. It's an uncannily fitting metaphor.)

Welcome to Costco. I love you.
