You probably shouldn't use your own car as a getaway vehicle. A rental might not be the best way either.

I thought it was common sense to steal the car before you steal the money? Oh well.

This just in: Criminals are,by and large,a brazen and idiotic lot.

How about don't rob a bank, but bank a lob and rob who banks the bankers while banking on lobbies to make bank.

Yeah, if only the visible license plate had been some random letters and numbers this never would have happened. Sweet thinking.

Higher than you would think. For every idiot that robs with a car that spells out where to arrest him, there's another that got away with it.

National FBI statistics show success rate around 40-50%.

How do people get away with it at that rate? I mean even factoring out the idiots I have a hard time seeing it above 20% success rate. Is it just incompetent local police agencies?

and the happy story ending of this little snafu is that this poor man will finally have a place to call his own. three hots and a cot, and a soap on a rope.

First we steal a car, then we rob a bank, then we buy the khakis, then we get the girls?

If you really think about it in logistics, your average cop takes 3 minutes to get anywhere...during that time, the perp took 30 seconds with some stupid wig and a note to empty a drawer and leave. In that 2 minute window, they've left, dumped their disguise, and are in a random car driving off. I'm sure with what little evidence there is in any given bank robbery, they have to now focus on the idiot that ran in screaming with a gun (who might just end up using it) with his face plastered all over the place and barely an attempt to hide his face. I imagine it comes down to a matter of resources and priorities. Not alot of the "violent" bank robberies remain unsolved...it's the non-violent hand-em-a-note perps that seem to slip into the night.

At least he was living in his SUV. He gets my sympathy vote. If I was living in my SUV robbing a bank might look like a pretty good option.

If the robber covers their face and any other distinguishing traits, is in and out in less than a minute and no one gets a description of the vehicle, they have a good shot of getting away, what do you expect the cops to do?

And yes, Fista, not only do I love that movie, I own it on Blu-Ray, and bought a BOSE surround sound system just for "The. Bank. Heist. Scene." Epic.

I was thinking he figured if he got away with it, he had some cash. If not, he'd at least get a real bed and some more leg room. So, really, a very pathetic no-lose scenario.

Here's pathetic: A 71-year-old man that robbed a bank while in a wheel chair said he did it because he felt hopeless because of all his health problems and wanted to go back to jail. (new window)

If it wasn't for the bank robberies, the high speed chases, the Mexican Cartels invading, the sea lion wars, Norv Turner, and the Navy dolphins San Diego would be pretty boring.

Who stops robbing banks after just 1? No, you're going to keep robbing them until you get caught. It's the law.

Only in America will you find a homeless guy living in an expensive SUV with personalized license plates...

What a country!
