I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the Colts Offensive Coordinator. Hell, he's been pretty much auditioning for it most of his career.

Manning actually has pretty good comedic timing. I'd watch SNL more often for stuff like his United Way spoof (new window).

(You have to endure Hulu's 30 sec commercial to see it. Sorry.)

True. And Luck could be that QB. But both of them working together scares the crap out of me.

I don't think Dan Marino should get chastised for not having a ring,
but for running away from defenders after tossing a pick.

2012-01-20 09:23:56 PM

If this is true it's too bad. I always imagine watching Peyton play until his skills were so bad and he was so old years down the road.

But then the Colts could get Luck and become so dominant within a short time that Luck would dominate Brady and make Brady retire.

It was funny hearing local sports radio (Grady & Big Joe on 1070) bash Rob Lowe for his Tweets. They went full high school girl by proclaiming "Parks & Rec? When is that even on? I live in Indiana. Why do I need to watch a show about it?" Nevermind Parks & Rec probably has better ratings in Indy than their show.

Haha, well I'm not defending the content of Rob Lowe's tweets. I just struck me as funny how catty and personal they got about a fairly popular and successful actor on a fairly popular show. Since they think he's so insignificant they would have been better off just not addressing the issue. Their arguments against Lowe's actions were, as is characteristic of the arguments of most sports talk radio hosts, pathetic and poorly thought out.

The writer ignores one fact when comparing Brady and Manning. To anyone who places Brady ahead of Manning, all I say is "11 and 5."

When Brady went down his team went 11-5 without him. When Manning was hurt the team accidentally won 2 games at the end of the season for an impressive 2-14 record.

Brady was always surrounded by superior talent. Though it hasn't been true lately the Pats had good to very good defenses in the years that they won Super Bowls (I'd go so far as to say the D should be credited with 2 of those 3 super bowl victories). And Manning has been through multiple coaches, not one of whom is now or will ever be as successful as Belichek.

Lenny and Carl: Brady was always surrounded by superior talent.

Generally had a better defense than Manning's Colts, sure, but you're gonna have a hard time convincing me that Kevin Faulk, Troy Brown, David Patten, David Givens, Ben Watson, and many of Brady's main offensive supporting cast throughout the years even hold a candle to Marvin Harrison, Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, etc. It's only in the more recent years has Brady actually had players around him that can make the QB look good on their own.

To be honest, it's hard to compare Brady & Manning to begin with because Manning from day one was the undisputed field general as the QB, and for that alone deserves to be in a class of his own.

It is strange that with that cast of no names, he won his SuperBowls. Also with that defense. As soon as the team upgraded the Offense, his numbers went up, but his SuperBowl rings dropped to zero. Also without that defense.

Of that group I have to give you Faulk, who was a tremendous success for the Rams and Harrison for whom we have no comparative material because he played his whole career with Manning. But Edge was a failure once he left the Colts and Wayne and Clark sure make me think that Manning's talent has been carrying their asses after this year's dreadful performances.

However, Brady wasn't putting up gaudy numbers when he had the subpar talent around him. He put up good to very good numbers, and the Pats won a bunch of games, but again they had a top ten, if not top 5 defense in those years. In Manning's Super Bowl winning year he had his best defense ever (ranked 16th).

They're both automatic hall of famers, but Brady didn't spend a decade carrying a team on his back, no matter what the narrative is from ESPN and Peter King.

Manning could be a good OC, but his big setback is how much/frequently likes to audible. The qb can't have his OC yammering in his ear about what to audible to when the qb needs to be analyzing what he sees, and getting the play run. Peyton would have time for a quick breakdown of what he sees, but after that, he'd have to shut up. I'm not convinced he could do that. Maybe he could, but I have doubts.

Edgerrin James left the Colts because they knew he was done, even if he didn't. Most running backs don't last as long as Marshall Faulk did, so there's no shame in that. It's not like Manning was exactly blocking for him or anything, so you can't lay James' stats at Manning's feet. Manning had a better running game to support him than Brady did for most of his career.
