A lot of people don't bother about their
friends in the vegetable kingdom. They
think: Oh, ah, what can I say? What can
a person like myself say to a vegetable?
But the answer is simple, my friends:
Just call, and tell them how you feel
about muffins...pumpkins...wax
paper...Caledonia, Mahoganies, elbows
...and green things in general...and
soon, a new rapport...you and your
new little green and yellow buddies,
Grooving together...Oh no! Maintaining
your coolness together! Worshipping
together in the church of your
choice...(only in America...)
Ah ahha ahha aahha

Call any vegetable Call it by name
Ah you gotta call one today
When you get off the train

Call any vegetable
And the chances are good
WOW! That the vegetable will RESPOND to you!

2003-10-17 01:49:14 PM
Well shiat! I like to microwave frozen vegetables. Guess I'm screwed.

2003-10-17 02:14:22 PM
well shiat! come on guys! dont break the cycle!

2003-10-17 02:15:50 PM
Eh, life itself kills you.
Diet won't affect the final outcome at all.

has made his peace with God.

*puts down Sausage, Egg, and Cheese McGriddle*

I'm sorry, what?

2003-10-17 02:16:05 PM
Well shiat! I remember a study a few years back that said that canned and frozen veggies had just as much vitamins as fresh.

2003-10-17 02:16:08 PM
There was a gentleman on Art Bell's radio show, that said microwaving food destroyed the nutrients. Guess he was right. Now I am wondering about the Chupacabra........

2003-10-17 02:16:44 PM
um...what the hell happened to my slash?

2003-10-17 02:16:47 PM
Well shiat! I remember a study a few years back that said that canned and frozen veggies had just as much vitamins as fresh.

2003-10-17 02:18:30 PM
How do you fit the wheelchair in the microwave or freezer?

2003-10-17 02:19:51 PM
Pronouns are nice.
If the suthor used pronouns, we wouldnt have to read " flavonoids, sinapics, and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives" 100 times.

2003-10-17 02:21:32 PM
Vegetables are gross!

2003-10-17 02:23:54 PM
As a rule, I assume that the more you process/handle/spindle/mutilate your food, the less healthy it is.

2003-10-17 02:24:18 PM
Well shiat! Guess I will go graze in the god damn yard then. And will they stop wasting money on food research, it all just ends in contradiction anyways...

2003-10-17 02:25:17 PM
As a Mexican-American I am highly offended by the articles usage of the word, "sinapics."

2003-10-17 02:25:27 PM
ironically I am eating Veggies right now!

really I am....

2003-10-17 02:25:48 PM
Well Shiat! (I'll play)
I always thought cooking the veggies helped break down cellulose and cell walls, thereby making more of the nutrients available to your body. Did they study the actualy nutritional benefits (hard to do) for humans, or just do some lab tests to test for the presence of these various substances? Because I didn't read anything about that in the article. I say bullshiat.

2003-10-17 02:26:02 PM
Hey why can't we slash?

2003-10-17 02:27:39 PM
ugh
"actual nutritional benefits"

*must use preview*

I get all the veggies I need in my beer.

That pumpkin beer is quite good.
I like to have a six-pack every fall.
However, I would never buy a keg of it, like someone I know did, just because it was on sale.

2003-10-17 02:29:33 PM
I don't think Hops count as a vegetable, Bung_Howdy.

2003-10-17 02:29:36 PM
Too many big words for a Friday afternoon!!

Gave up after encountering flavonoids, sinapics, and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives!!!!

2003-10-17 02:30:36 PM
shiat! I guess I'll just have to take my Centrums and drink my green tea... Those farks better not take my green tea!

Reporter: "In news today, scientists found that green tea loses its antioxidants when immersed in water..."

Me: "AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!" (throws mug at TV) "Now I need a new TV!"

2003-10-17 02:31:55 PM
OK, so excrement is filtered but taking the lord's name in vain isn't? hmm...

2003-10-17 02:32:21 PM
well i'm eating peanut butter m&m's and i gather even microwaved veggies are better for you than that, so there! (or something)

2003-10-17 02:32:49 PM
This artical is really important.
Freezing vegetables causes the loss of flavonoids, sinapics, and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives,
but boiling causes an even greater loss of flavonoids, sinapics, and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives.
The best way to preserve the flavonoids, sinapics, and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives is to steam fresh vegetables.
So be careful, because flavonoids, sinapics, and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives are very important to your health.

I call Bad Science Reporting, which may or may not include the Reporting of Bad Science as well as Reporting Science Badly.

"Cooked" vegetables? By whose standards? The British? If you cook everything to mush then loss of vitamins is expected, regardless of the technique. No reporting of the criteria for determining "cooked".

And how much water were they using? Cook a bean in a bathtub and you'll lose more nutients than if you use minimal water. No indication of that either.

Allzo, some plants lock their flavonoidy goodness up and it all ends up in your poo unless you cook them first (the veggies, not the poopies), so some foods (tomaters, in particular) have less bioavailable nutrients when raw.

Otta be a law - you can't report about a science experiment without publishing the protocols.

2003-10-17 02:36:25 PM
well fark. i'm gonna die from cancer tomorrow then.

i did notice that they drew an analogy between the vegetables and the right wing conspiracy.... both eliminate free radicals.

When I read the headline I thought maybe it meant retarded people......my mistake....

2003-10-17 02:41:15 PM
This means my mom was lying to me ! She told me to eat all my frozen microwave vegetables or I wouldn't get dessert ! Dessert was more nutritious !!!

Traumatized

2003-10-17 02:41:33 PM
well shiat sounds like fresh vegetables should help me shiat

2003-10-17 02:42:22 PM
All the study said was that boiling and microwaving reduced the antioxidant content. Boo hoo. No one knows how much antioxidants you should take, too many is just as bad as not taking any, and foods are not standardized. Your body actually needs oxidation reactions (big surprise.) Of course, these simple facts would lower sales of worthless dietary supplements.

Fark! micro-doting them is so easy, and teh frozen tastes better than the canned.
nothings ever good enough anymore

2003-10-17 02:43:42 PM
You know what the hardest part about eating a vegetable is?

Getting them back in the Wheelchair.

Do you know what 80 year old Poonani tastes like?

Depends

2003-10-17 02:45:06 PM
Does this mean I can finally get up from the table? My Mom has been making me sit here since 1979 because I don't want to eat my broccoli.

2003-10-17 02:45:50 PM

"I'm not doing any more equasions until you open the freezer door. You can just figure out the universe by yourself."

Hmm, maybe this is all part of a Dentist's conspiracy that's coming into light:

Step 1: Make people cook vegetables
Step 2: Wisdom teeth will need to be pulled from decreased molar usage
Step 3: Profit!!

oh, and waitaminute, maybe the caption should have been "eat me, asshole"? Hmm, wonder if he has "asshole" on his voice box...

Dunno, might be from Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

2003-10-17 03:02:40 PM

2003-10-17 03:03:58 PM

Moral of the story: DON'T EAT BROCCOLI

\obvious

2003-10-17 03:09:44 PM
Well Shiat!!! I've been thinking this past week I'm not getting enough flavonoids, sinapics, and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives. This article proves it! Bummer
