Well, duh. They realized that they're living in Tampa.

Tampa really is a complete shiathole.

If you're going to pull a jumper, there are worse places than the Sunshine Skyway. Of course, in the 4 years I lived there, 2 different people survived the fall.

Oh wow color me with a surprise Crayola because it has also been noticed by me that Jacksonville in the Florida region is the 12th city of fatness. Orlando is the 32st. Tampa the 36est. So it is hard to blame them for feeling the stress of the fellow human who is looking at them thinking WOW YOU MUST LOSE THE WEIGHT.

What does give me much surprise is that Jacksonville does not have the higher suicide rate than does the city which is Tampa because would not the fatter people wish for more of the self killing? Perhaps they are just too much of the bigger people to put the gun to the head of them or they break the rope when trying to do the hangman.

forget Tampa-St.Pete, look at the suicide rate in Leaving Las Vegas

I spent two days in the Tampa-St Pete area a few weeks ago. I thought it was actually rather pleasant.

Then I got to the third day.

Tampa - The Genital Wart on the Wang of America

/Lived there 17 years, love being vindicated for all the years I biatched about it.

Tampa, like Miami and Orlando are nice places to visit...however, actually living there is a different story. I'm surprised they don't have more suicides.

Correlation with a high ratio of old people in a hurry to get to heaven?

Tampa is like Disney World for crazy people. It's warm, the cost of living is cheap, and it's large enough and weird enough that no one looks at you twice for being a little off.

Crazy people commit suicide because they're crazy.

1. Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida

I call BS on that. The site doesn't even bother to cite where these "facts" come from so there is no way dispute them.

To be fair, Tampa has the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. People come from all over to commit suicide there.

I bet if they posted signs with that info there would be fewer attempts.

hmm the wife is wanting to move to Florida for health reasons within two to three years. Her grandmother lives in Port Orange. Having lived in Oklahoma City (which really would not be considered a big city at all) my assumption on any of the big cities in Florida was that the bigger they are (Miami, Orlando, Tampa/St. Pete) the more crazy it is. Correct me if I am wrong, but I suggested to her if she really wanted to move there then how about living either in the middle of the state (not Orlando) so you have access to either the Atlantic or Gulf coasts when you want the beach or live on the Gulf side away from the Metropolitan areas and then when she wanted to visit her grandma, it would only be what 3-4 hours across the state.

I live in St. Pete, so I know it storms everyday during the summer, but that doesn't mean it's a cloudy day. 5 minutes of rain does not make a cloudy day, hell it rains here even when the sun is shining (sun showers).

Standout factors: The Detroit metropolitan area is in the 100th percentile for violent crime and property crime.

Detroit metropolitan area assaulted Detroit metropolitan area.

Standout factors: Las Vegas-Paradise is in the 100th percentile for divorces

Las Vegas-Paradise parted ways with Las Vegas-Paradise.

I really liked it in my admittedly short time visiting there. It has my #1 desire in a place to live (beaches), my #1 fiscal desire (low rent), there's a casino...I would definitely move there from Atlanta if given a chance. The only other place I've really lived is Denver...that place sucked. Cold, no beaches, guys seemingly outnumber girls 10-1. Nice place to live if you're married though, since fun is out of the question.

Not really surprised at Vegas either. I've been here 9 years, and have managed to avoid committing suicide yet though!

Unfortunately, places in the middle of the state like Lakeland seem to distill the crazy into a fine liquor that is difficult to remove the stench of.

The middle of the state is pretty empty. Lots of farms and cow pastures...To be honest, I'd recommend either the northern east coast (north of Ft. West Palm to Jacksonville), or the southern west coast (south of Tampa to Naples.)

Thank you NOAA for vagueness.

At least between this fluff piece and the one from Men's Health (I believe it was Men's Health, I could be wrong) I don't have to worry about the carpet baggers flooding the city.
I, for one, am not stressed by this area. I live 4 blocks from the water and 3 blocks from one of the bigger parks in the area.

When they both came into existence they played at the Thunder Dome , which is now Tropicana field and houses the Rays.

There's worse than Tampa, even in Florida.

Ocala comes to mind.

Some parts of Miami could stand an upgrade.

As someone who used this reasoning six years ago and moved to Gainesville I can only suggest the you move to one coast or the other. You go to the beach a lot more if you live near it.

I like Tampa/St. Pete. But then again I am a little strange. They have some good museums, decent universities, nice beaches, fishing, spring training, low cost of living. It's like anywhere else if you move into a crappy neighborhood and have a crappy attitude you will have a crappy experience.

Jacksonville is a Southern-Baptist-run sewer which qualifies as Florida's largest city solely because the city swallowed all of Northeastern Florida.

Ft. Lauderdale always reminded me of movies set in New York in the summer time: gritty, sticky, ozone-seared, and looking as if they smelled of hot-dogs and onions.
