The idea is that they won't go anywhere themselves, but they'll be able to keep Jets from getting through.

I swear they've rolled out this same exact article every single time we've stacked up carrier groups in the Gulf since farking 1990.
At this point, I'm ready to chalk it up to being as close to actual fact as anything Pravda has ever printed.

I deployed on an amphib during the first part of OEF (before it turned into OIF). We had a dive team which consisted of human divers and dolphins.

I don't think Iran will be allowed to close the strait - not by the US, but by its oil-exporting neighbors who also use the waterway. Saudi Arabia has enough money to do pretty much anything it wants, and it wants to keep exporting its oil.

US Captain: If you will not let us pass into the straits, we shall take your by ship by force!
Iranian Captain: You don't frighten us, American pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, so-called Obama-president, you and all your silly American kaniggets. Thppppt!
US XO: What a strange person.
US Captain: Now look here, my good man!
Iranian Captain: I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough whopper! I fart in your general direction! You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of eldeberries.
US XO: Is there someone else up there we could talk to?
Iranian Captain: No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time-a!

Really? Israel has been playing this game since the 70s.
Israel: We're gonna nuke somebody
US: NO DON'T!
Israel: We have to. Unless you have a plan short of nuking them. Now where's that big red button?
US: NO DON'T! We'll take care of it!!!

You laugh, but my stepfather has some gruesome stories about the stuff he saw in the Marines during Vietnam. He doesn't exactly have bad dreams about them, but let's just say he's not a fan of dolphins.
