What are the Vegas odds?
Not on who will win, but on whether the fight will ever actually happen?

This will be a record-breaking, historic fight.
In that it will be the first time buying a PPV will cost $99.99 plus taxes and fees.

I don't even follow boxing and I only hear about these 2 primary donna's on sportscenter, and even I know this fight is never happening, and not because of either guy's purse money, it's because neither wants to risk losing

I think Arum is stopping Manny from fighting Mayweather, and Mayweather stopping himself from fighting Pacquaio, although he has been acting rather desperate to get this fight done

Indeed. Since each fighter stands to earn $50+ million off this fight, why the hell would they let pride get in the way?

From this non-boxing fan's perspective, it's not about pride. I think the fighters want to do it, but their management is what's getting in the way. If I'm the boxers, I get an outside party involved to help push this along.

Everything I have read says that Bob Arum is afraid Pac-Man will lose to Mayweather and retire to the Phillipine Senate. He'd rather milk another Marquez fight and then after some easy ones MAYBE line up Mayweather.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find this true. And when the eventual Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happens, both fighters will be past their primes and the bout will be a 12-round paw fest that goes to a split decision or a draw, causing a Las Vegas riot not seen since Mike Tyson tried to eat Evander Holyfield.

Why earn $50+ million from each other when it's more lucrative to earn $50+ million fighting everyone else, keeping the lure of a head-to-head bout on perpetual hiatus?
It's the ultimate promotional tactic. The hype of these two maybe but never fighting has amplified every other bout they've fought over the past two years by 2-3x at least.
They don't want to fight -- that will end the windfall. It's like Richard Kimble catching the one-armed man..... that will end the show. So of course they don't want to do that.

Seems to me that earning $50+ million for one fight is better than earning $50+ million for five fights, but that's just me.

Yep. Honestly at this point boxing fans are like battered wives, they know what's going to happen yet they keep going back. Last time I paid to watch a fight was Lewis/Tyson and I'm not falling for that crap ever again.

Because it IS a sport, this meandering makes it even more ridiculous (ty for that btw, I didn't run it through spell cheeker liek I normally do) then wrestling.
See we all know wrestling is over the top stupid and fake. That's part of the fun.

And apparently Mayweather won't do a 50/50 split, which means the fight won't happen and Mayweather should take a lot of the blame. If he's willing to do a 50/50 split then it's pretty much Bob Arum's fault, since it sounds like Pac would take the fight.

Ok. So apparently I am not articulating properly my point. I apologize for this.
This whole situation with Mayweather and Pacquiao is like a lower quality pro wrestling story. Which is sad because boxing, of course, is a *real* sport.

Why do I get the feeling that "Money" Mayweather has blown all his cash? That's the only reason I can see him suddenly wanting to fight Pacquiao this badly.
Walking around with bundles of notes isn't exactly investing wisely.

The IRS had been taking pieces of Mayweather's purses for his last several fights, maybe that's what gave you the idea.
Also, Pacquiao looked pretty pedestrian in the last Marquez fight, so that's also got something to do with Floyd's sudden change of heart. Plus, he knows Arum doesn't want the fight, so by screaming about wanting it after years of ducking everyone in sight and getting called on it, Floyd now sees an opportunity to not look like the biatch he is or the one causing the fight not to happen.

Don't kid yourself. There's a reason Money picked a date that would mean a gate only 1/2 of what it would be if they waited just a month. He knew Arum would refuse to leave that much cash on the table.

For those that are absolutely tired (or just stopped giving a shiat after a while) of listening to these prima donnas turn down over $50 million here is a play-by-play summary of the recent negotiations:
-Pacquiao has shown interest in the fight
-Mayweather has called out Pac directly by numerous means
-Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum has cited that the cut Pac suffered in his last fight won't be able to heal (absolute BS) until June, when Mayweather goes to jail.
-Arum says they need to build an outdoor arena to bring around $40 million more in revenue (partial BS)
-Arum says Mayweather does not have a guarantee from anyone and he acts like he cares
-Mayweather gets a guarantee
-Arum does not answer calls from Richard Schaefer (Mayweather's promoter to some extent) and says he is not Mayweather's promoter
-Arum continues to say Pacquiao will fight in June against "one of four guys"
-Mayweather calls Michael Koncz (Pac's adviser) personally who put him in the phone directly with Manny.
And I'm sure I missed a few things but yeah this thing is ugly and Bob Arum is at fault for most of it (though every party involved is to blame).

Meh, at this point it's most likely a combination of things, money, legacy fights, promoter BS, etc ad nauseum. Honestly I'm beyond caring who's at fault this time, because by now they all have a hand in this sham.

Different disciplines. MMA footwork and body positioning is different. Rules and equipt. not the same. If Edgar has to take the bout under boxing rules without several prior tune-ups against some at least fairly hard-nosed tomato cans, he's getting KTFO within 3 by either guy. If you do it the other way, sure. Edgar blows them out.

I say it's total BS. Why not do it at the UNLV football stadium? Wikipedia says it could seat 40,000 for football. Add 5,000 or more in floor seating and you got it. Couldn't sell beer though since it's a college stadium.

Mayweather states he will only fight in Vegas... if not you could do it in Cowboy's stadium which seats 100,000.
Arum is the reason why this fight will not happen.

That was another possibility that was thrown around actually. And the revenue for that outdoor stadium is greatly exaggerated too, the MGM Grand seats around 19,000, the supposed capacity of that stadium would be of about 40,000 so that much more money is not going to be made.

Floyd is only allowed to fight in Vegas (at least in May) since the whole reason he is not in jail right now is because the judge considered a Mayweather fight would have a significant economic effect on Vegas and allowed him to delay his sentence.
