The for-profit news media is all about ratings. They don't care about much beyond that.

"He is making a mockery of the system," Todd said. "...Is it fair to the process? Yes, the process is a mess, but he's doing it in a way that feels like he's trying to influence it with his own agenda and that may be anti-Republican."
Or, you know, he could be a son of South Carolina. And it's the Republicans currently running their primary there. And the way SuperPACs function, their role, and whether they're damaging to the process is being discussed by the candidates themselves.

Yes, it's all Colbert's fault.
It has nothing to do with the fact that the system has become a farce.

All Mr. Colbert needs to do is incorporate himself and instantly he's better than a regular citizen.

Stephen Colbert is shining a spotlight onto how awful the Citizens United ruling was. The Supreme Court justices that ruled for it probably hate Stephen Colbert more than anything.

Amazing that a fairly simple parody of themselves, is so dead on, and so bothersome to them. Very telling, IMO.

"NBC's Chuck Todd Troubled By Colbert Presidential Run: Is Media Helping Him Spread Anti-Republican Agenda?"
That headline is interesting. If you replace "Anti" with "Pro" and "Republican" with "American"... the headline ends up with the same meaning.

The GOP is still butthurt that W's crew fell for the act and invited Colbert to the White House Correspondent's Dinner.

My dream is that somehow Colbert wins the republican nomination and runs against president Obama.
I know that even if Colbert beat the odds and got enough delegates to put him over the top the GOP would dump him at the convention but a Colbert v. Obama election would be the best chance we've had in decades to getting a real liberal in the White House.

The ultimate irony is that Colbert himself is a moderate and a devout catholic and sunday school teacher. Outside of his characer, he actually probably would be a good Republican presidential nominee if they were going for some one center-right.

MSM: Subverting the will of South Carolinians who support Colbert... or something.

Too bad the people who need to change the system, for the most part, have about as much humor as a glass of water.

At least they do seem to grasp that he is mocking the travesty that is our modern election system. However, whining about his message being "anti-republican" is just stupid. It's his Super PAC, he can push whatever goddamned agenda he wants to. That's the point. Is it good for the American political system that a comedian can raise unlimited amounts of cash and flood the airwaves with BS political attack ads that further his own agenda? No, I really don't think that it is. Is it any more harmful than Carl Rove's Super PAC pushing his own personal agenda down America's throat? I certainly don't see how it could be. Wrong is wrong. Instead of whining about a message that you don't agree with, get off your ass and attack the problems within the system. At least Colbert is shining a huge spotlight on the travesty that is our campaign finance system while furthering his agenda. Carl Rove and his ilk are simply exploiting it for their own personal gain and hoping that nobody notices what a farce things have become.
