So, can anyone collect this reward? If so, I wonder how much it is.

Step 1) Peel off label.

Step2) Call Number

Step 3) Profit!

My tax dollars at work. Not sure what's worse: that the state mandated this sign, or that the state requires vendors to register vending machines.

2012-01-20 09:51:32 AM
Is there more to the sign or is that it? Does this actually serve a purpose? This looks retarded even for Florida.

2012-01-20 09:52:17 AM
The state has mandated this sign informing the public that the state has mandated this sign.

Typical government.

My head is ready to asplode.

It says to call if it's missing from any machine, meaning if you don't see it on any machine, call.

I just reduntanted myself, but there it is, twice, for those of you that didn't get it the first time.

This is pulled from a reddit thread a few days ago. Apparently Florida used to require a sticker with a bunch of information about the business, but people were stealing the information and using it for fraud. Now, instead of the license sticker, there's just a sticker that you have to have from the government in lieu of a license sticker.

The idea is if you ever see a vending machine without such a sticker, you will have remembered the number and will call it in.

Sort of a non-story...

Just another cute little revenue stream for the greedy bastards in Tallahassee.

Kraln: The idea is if you ever see a vending machine without such a sticker, you will have remembered the number and will call it in.

This would be great if the number was 1-800-NO-STICK or 1-800-BAD-VEND, but all I can get out of this is 1-800-FLAX-APE.

2012-01-20 10:01:30 AM
Wouldn't it be easy to get around that by just taping a copy of it to the machine or making a sticker of your own that says the same thing?

Upon catching me photocopy this page from my father's document, he finally understood why I enjoyed Monty Python so much.

nodubs: Wouldn't it be easy to get around that by just taping a copy of it to the machine or making a sticker of your own that says the same thing?

Yes. The law says there needs to be a sticker on there with specific wording. Not who has to provide that sticker.

Can look on another vend machine, there's often more than one around.

Um, it's letting you know, with an incentive, to look for other machines without that sticker. Has fark become so stupid that Florida is outwitting it now?

I guess it's funny because you never ever find a row of vending machines together, where some may have stickers and some may not.

ha.

You could also go with 1-800-3-JAW-APE. I think "Three-Jaw Ape" would be a good band name too.

Failure to notice this notice is treason.

Now what are you doing looking at an Ultraviolit sign, citizen?

The author is wrong, these notices have been on machines in florida all my life. The idea is to make consumers aware of it and turn them into a vigilante force, you get a reward! Never seen a vending machine without one, however.

They have, yes. The author even mentions that.

However, the author is discussing the new bill that changes the law that required those notices so that there's only the information on the sticker.

Information which is completely useless if said sticker is missing.

That's why they should add another sticker besides this one. They could even stick it right over the top of the other one to make doubly sure.

I really enjoy when people chime in about how this was previously on Reddit. They contribute nothing to the conversation other than "Meh, I already saw this on Reddit. How about this, you go back on over to Reddit and let the door hit you on the arse on the way out. They are apparently more up to the minute than Fark and you are apparently a far more superior reader than us, perhaps even a master of the internet!

I come to Fark for the funny headlines and interesting conversation threads. If you did not notice, Fark is a news aggregate site. That means that most EVERYTHING was previously featured on another site.

Here's an idea! Why don't all the superior Reddit people keep Fark more up to date by posting these stories here.

I'd guess to make sure that the unit is properly licensed for tax or health department-related reasons.

Yeah, if you see it's missing you could always just look at the phone number of the machine right next to it. Because usually there is one. If not, it's not to hard to find one.

Out of curiosity, what's to stop someone from removing the sticker and the reporting it missing for the reward?

Codenamechaz: Out of curiosity, what's to stop someone from removing the sticker and the reporting it missing for the reward?

I'm guessing you would find out that the reward was actually only for reporting vending machines that weren't registered for a sticker. Then someone would replace the sticker.
