A White House official later told Fox News the vice president isn't brokering a deal,
suggesting Biden misspoke.

Dodd, who became CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America after leaving the Senate in 2011, noted the movie "Avatar" was stolen by online pirates 21 million times. Such acts, he said, threaten to decimate his industry.
Chris, buddy, come here. Listen, let me clue you in on something: Pointing to your all-time box office champ isn't going to convince anyone with a functioning brain that piracy is hurting your little industry.
Yeah, yeah, I know. That still doesn't account for Congress...

In an exclusive interview with Fox News, Dodd fired off a warning to Obama -- his former Senate Democratic colleague in this election year -- "don't take us for granted."
well you could certainly take your case to the public. oh...wait...no, you can't. you actually pissed on the average voter didn't you? well how about that. you pissed on the average voter (and consumer) and they bit back and now the backlash has f*cked up your legislative agenda. kinda sucks to be you guys, don't it?

I'd be more encouraged to vote for Obama's re-election if I knew he wasn't receiving (or better yet wasn't accepting) campaign contributions from the MPAA or any other group intent on curtailing freedoms in order to increase their own profits.

Hooboy I hope that guy isn't weirdly emotionally invested in his personal website because he's about to get the DOS attack that is really going to hurt his feelings and then the internet is going to get really tough on him... didn't he see what the internet did to the regime in Iran? That dude is going to be his own hashtag and he better not post on any forum because he will get flamed within an inch of his life.

Obama should respond by getting the Attorney General to take down the RIAA and MPAA using the RICO Act. Just for kicks. The Chicago way.

People will download Yoko Ono albums if they are free. I know people that have enough stuff downloaded that it would take them decades to watch it all. It is more akin to hoarding than anything.
How long does it take from the theater release for Avatar to be released for DVD? Netflix? Redbox? Do you have to sit through the FBI warning and an ad for blu ray (on a blu ray player) that tells you how awesome blu ray is?

So he's saying that the MPAA and RIAA will stop paying if he doesn't support legislation that is in their
interest? That sounds like attempted bribery and/or real bribery to me..The FBI needs to investigate this
and leave MegaUpload (a company based in another country, and owned by no-US citizens) alone..

it seems fairly obvious to me that this sopa is going to die an early death soon. The sponsor, Marco Rubio, a republican has backed off big time, in Illinois Senator Kirk, another Repub is bailing. This is pretty much a DOA thing.

Obama won't miss the contributions from the MPAA. He gets more than enough from his Wall Street cronies. You know, those guys who loan the money to the entertainment industry like all of the MPAA members.

In addition, any lost Hollywood support could be made up with votes and dollars from the tech community, which is lobbying the issue just as aggressively.
Wouldn't that be something to see? The tech community is finally realizing that they have both the numbers and the dollars to be a forcing function in politics. Let's make this happen.

Its too bad boycotts rarely work. We really need to stop buying TV, movies, music and all the other crap these industries produce for a year. Not a day, not a week. The whole freaking year.
But, too many people will want their American Idol and Saw 57.
Headso
2012-01-20 08:43:39 AM
All players involved even those reporting it are so used to the idea that these special interests bribe and receive special treatment for their bribes that the story is just about Obama losing some bribe money and not about the fact that this guy publicly admits attempting to bribe the president.

How much money did Avatar make? Not really the best example of profits being hamstrung.
Anyway, where is "Hollywood" going to go with their money? To the party that considers them as an enemy?

No kidding. That movie only made more money than almost anything in the history of everything. Terribad example. Of course these idiots are still doing the numbers as if each one of those downloads was a lost sale which is a horribly stupid way to look at things. If a person hears a song off my car stereo that doesn't count for a lost sale no matter how much you wish it did.
