lolololol that song is a joke between my mom and i.... when i was a very small child she'd sing this song to me and i never believed her that it was a real.... and since it was before the internet or even CD era (stop laughing, im young) she had no way to prove it until one time we were on a road trip and had switched to some terrible rural MN radio station and the song came on. probably the hardest i've ever laugh/cried in my life.

Ha! I first heard of that song after the release of Weird Al's version, "Jurassic Park". I remember my mom laughing so hard when she heard me playing it.... she had to explain the original song to me. I was all like "huh?!" I couldn't believe someone would write a real song so stupid!

What is really fun is trying to expain to the young uns that the guy singing the original is Dumbledore from the first 2 Harry Potters

My first Caturday!

img.photobucket.com

This is our younger cat, Biggie Smalls, the day we brought her home. She loves to knock shiat off tables, particularly glasses. She'll just push it off, watch it smash and take off running. She also likes mashed potatoes, sleeping on computer keyboards, and climbing on Mount Zerochance.

Aaaaaand this is Fancy. Our Persian. She is as mean as she looks. Moody as hell. She'll piss on things that we really, really care about if we so much as get litter she doesn't like. She also only drinks water from the faucet, and will yell at you until you comply. We love her just the way she is.

Farkers, I need your help!

One of my neighbors recently passed away leaving behind two cats. One is an indoor tabby. I think she's about 10 years old. She's kind of small for an adult, but she is very active, talkative and affectionate.

The other is a feral cat that my neighbor would feed. She's a loner and runs from people...usually. Now that she doesn't have a steady food source she lets me approach to feed her, but not pet her. I don't think she can fend for herself. She's white and has one green eye and one blue.

If there is anyone in or around the St. Louis area, I would really appreciate any help. My house is already full of pets and all the shelters we've tried say they're at capacity. If you're interested, my email is in my profile.

/I hope this plea doesn't get lost in all the lolcats.
//maybe I should make a lolcat of the kitties in need.

Zero Exponent: Some of the regulars here may remember Toby, the orange tabby who lives in the hospital I work at.

[farm8.staticflickr.com image 640x481]

Toby used to stay with Ruth, in her room on the pallative care unit. Unfortunately Ruth died in 2010. RIP Ruth.

[farm5.staticflickr.com image 640x480]

Fortunately for Toby, he was allowed to continue staying at the hospital (and even in the same room thanks to the kind resident who moved in after Ruth's passing) because the PCM (patient care manager, basically the boss of the unit) paid out of her own pocket for his cat litter, food, and vet costs.

[farm6.staticflickr.com image 640x556]

That PCM is no longer working on that unit, and the new boss does not want to keep the cat. Apparently some asshat staff have complained about having to clean the cat litter and stuff.

[farm6.staticflickr.com image 500x328]

I can't take in another cat at this time, so I thought I would ask the good folk of caturday if they can help out a cat in need of a home.

[farm5.staticflickr.com image 640x424]

Toby is really friendly and gentle. His favorite thing to do is sit in your lap and rub his head on you as you pet him. If anyone is interested in saving this guy from a trip to the humane society, my email is one.big.voice on that mail service with a G. I'm in Winnipeg, Canada--but would be willing to pay up to $100 to ship him somewhere if that helps.

[farm8.staticflickr.com image 640x480]

If you are a Flickr user, you can click any of these to go to my photostream, then shoot me a flickrmail.

[farm5.staticflickr.com image 640x439]

In case you haven't guessed, I'm posting ALL my Toby pictures. One left ...

[farm8.staticflickr.com image 431x640]

He doesn't really need a wheelchair to get around, he is a very healthy cat as far as I can tell. According to my supervisor, who has been there longer and is an animal lover like me, Toby is about six years old--so he still has a lot of love to give! Please help if you can and thanks for rea ...

Contact your local news media. They would eat this up and in the process probably find him a new home. Maybe even in a setting where he could provide additional therapy to ill or aging patients... which I am assuming is what he has been doing previously.

This was the hardest thing I've ever been involved with, next to my Father's illness and funeral. The cat shaped hole in my heart feels like it is about to burst.

I want to celebrate Barclay's life, and what he has meant to us. He was the most loyal cat and gave us almost 18 years of unconditional love. What more could we ask for? We've spent the last 2.5 months cherishing the time we had left. It was time to let him go, no more pain.

I may not be around much the weekend, but I know there will be hugs sent my way. Thanks to everyone in advance.

No luck with the vets either. None of her family is interested in having a pet. It's sad, the indoor is such a sweetheart. She's lived with other cats and dogs before, so I think she'd eventually get used to other pets.

My condolences, Yellowcat. We know you tried so hard to get him well, but I guess it was just his time. A cat of 18 is as old as a 88 year old human. A pretty good, long life!

Thanks for all the hugs -- they have reached and made us feel much better. Hubby and I spent the evening remembering all the funny things Barclay did -- like the time he left a dead baby squirrel on our front porch just as 20 people from church arrived for dinner -- it was his contribution to the party!

It's a weird coincidence that Barclay and my Father both had the same type of cancer, and my Father died just a few months before his 88th birthday -- I think this has a little to do with how upset I was yesterday.

Y'all guys are great!!!

skipping ahead to the threads end just to post really quick this morning. catching up on all the events of the past two weeks has stirred up lots of dust. i feel terribly sorry for alien and her loss, i do hope she can hang in tight. and condolences for any other kitties who have crossed over. i'll have to play catch up later while i'm offline at home.
but on a brighter note! i have a home again. the landlords had gotten the old handy man to take the water heater and some pipes as his last paycheck so he knew he had to scoot in before the bank turned their attention to the building and the residents still living there. so we had no heat or water for three days before we found a place to live. the city had no pity for us, they said go to the shelter. i said with two cats? they said find a friend to put you up. we got slightly warmer beds but the poor cats still had to make do with the space heater and each other. we all had to live in the bedroom just for heat and the boys slept at the foot of the bed in a ball, the floor was freezing! we took the first place we could get and were lucky that it's nice and clean and warm. this landlord knows what he is doing and isn't taking tropical vacations just before declaring bankruptcy. the only downside is now i have to trudge up to the third floor instead of the second.
and cats!

Longtime lurker, first time poster in Caturday thread.

This is my pretty girl Dicey, who has brought me love and comfort for 11 and 1/2 years. She was the first cat I got as an adult and I've adored her. In an hour, I'm going to have to take her to the rainbow bridge and let her cross over. The first week of December, she was diagnosed with GI Lymphoma. She responded to treatment really well but last week it cam back with a vengance and she's dropped down to 5 pounds and I can tell she's getting very little enjoyment out of life.

She's been an indoor kitty who loved to sneak outside whenever possible. I'm going to let her take a final exploration of the yard and the take her to the vet. I only wish that it was spring and she could enjoy the green grass one last time.

Mrs.Sharpier: I haz a question! I take care of about 5 feral cats (all have been trapped, fixed and released)

[i96.photobucket.com image 449x799]

And it has been snowing and I am concerned

[i96.photobucket.com image 479x384]

Is there some sort of pet igloo I can buy and if so, would they use it?

And here is my little tame inside girly "Blackheed Martin":

[i96.photobucket.com image 449x799]

she is warm

Provide plenty of food, they will go through a lot of calories keeping warm.

Provide liquid water, use a heated dish so it doesn't freeze on you.

Provide several "caves" for them to snuggle into to stay warm. I don't know how well they get along with each other, so I would use several to prevent one preventing the others from using it. Set each one up in such a way that it will stay dry inside. Snow is a great insulator as long as it isn't melting into ice water. I think at least one regular used two nested rubbermaid containers with an opening for a cat door and insulation (pine needles or straw) to make an insulated cat house last winter. It was definitely something that would drain well rather than a blanket between the layers so it wouldn't hold water when moisture melts and freezes.
