Political ads distort the truth? You don't say...

2012-01-19 05:01:37 PM
That's it. I'm voting for McCain.

2012-01-19 05:02:54 PM
The ad is correct that we rated this a Promise Kept.

and then some other shiat about how they didn't really look into it and there are other promises they haven't rated that way.

Great job.

2012-01-19 05:03:31 PM
Sure, sure. But Romney's claim that our military is smaller than in 1917 is totally accurate.

2012-01-19 05:04:33 PM
"Sure we said that, but we didn't, like, you know, really mean it"

The actual submitted headline is a "yeah, but," so, no.

Yea, well, since the lie of the year, I don't care what half-truths Politifact certifies.

James!: papatex: In before the "yea buts"

The ad is correct that we rated this a Promise Kept.

"President Obama kept his promise to toughen ethics rules," a narrator says, as the following text is displayed on the screen: "President Obama 'kept a campaign promise to toughen ethics rules,' PolitiFact 1/21/09."

Technically the words are correct, but the way it is understood to the casual viewer is different than reality. Quite a bit different. It's scummy.

Are we really going to hold our standards to the level of people not really paying attention?

Did he do this thing? Yes, he did do this thing. Could he have done more things? Yes, he could have done more things. Does that take away his ability to say he did the thing? No, he still did it.

Is it more or less scummy than Polifact saying that Republicans didn't vote to kill Medicare because they kept the name Medicare while destroying anything that resembled Medicare?

2012-01-19 05:32:08 PM
James!: Are we really going to hold our standards to the level of people not really paying attention?

Most people don't pay attention to that stuff too closely. I doubt I would've had it not been brought up, and then I'd be looking like an idiot repeating that stuff to people.

If Politifact articles were baseballs:

2012-01-19 05:45:02 PM
This just in: Conservatives will worship anything Politifact says that they agree with, while excoriating it in the very next breath for all of the lies it calls Republicans on.

Truly, Politifact is the epitome of MSM elitist left-wing drive-by media, except when it's not.

2012-01-19 05:47:16 PM
Politifact is just trying desperately not to be called a liberal rag by Bill O'Reilly an 19th time. When, in reality, it's not their fault that facts have a liberal bias.

I still cannot believe that whole thing happened. It's just completely indefensible.

I mean, the Jon Stewart ones were irksome (the History Channel and 'misinformed' Fox News viewers "lies"). But their Lie of the Goddamned Year was just simply not a lie. I wouldn't have a problem if they just called it an exaggeration (even though I'd disagree). But the biggest lie of the whole year!?

Okay, you got me. :)

I did forget about the specifics of that.

Actually, I can understand what they are attempting to do here.

For both this claim by Obma, and for the "Lie of the Year"

They are being very, very precise. And they are technically correct.

Obama's ad makes it sound like he's done massive changes. When looking at the record and things relating to "cleaning up" the government, he's got some things done, others not.

As for the Democratic ad that claim that Republicans were voting to get rid of Medicare was blatantly false. Obama and other officials correctly claimed that the Republican were radically and poorly changing Medicare. Republicans WERE trying to do a bait and switch.

2012-01-19 08:26:52 PM
My favorite part of the new ad was the claim of 2.7 million green jobs.... From a report by the Brookings Institute. Sadly the Brookings Institute defines the 2.7 million as jobs that "produce good and services with an environmental benefit." This includes such Green Jobs as trash collectors, waste management, road side trash collectors, etc. Hilarious.

Another hilarious part was that his policies caused the drop in dependence on foreign oil when his own Energy Department says it was due to global market conditions and not policy.

Tell me you aren't denying that they've been planning switching it over to a private system for quite some time now.

So they rated it half true, because it was half true.

Truly, both Politifact and Fartbongo are history's greatest monsters. So vote Republican.

Solyndra.

And that is the one that we KNOW about.

'Promise Kept' is the new 'Hope and Change' from Barry's propaganda machine. Liberal suckers will probably fall for it. Seeing how they are dumb asses and all.

Obama's ad is not 100% true and correct.

Therefore, Sarah Palin becomes God-President of America for all eternity while Fartbongo is made the deputy janitor at Wrigley Field and must wear a silly hat on alternating Tuesdays. QED.

Perhaps you just surround yourself with Republican Christians. They do that all the time with their Bible... you know, selectively choose which parts to accept as true and which parts to ignore.

/give to the rich, take from the poor!
/death penalty death penalty!
/let the uninsured die!

the loss of tax payer money to one of Obama financial backers is bullshiat now?

I'll remember that when a Republican does it.

Holy crap, I got tied to a neo-conservative christian sect. I guess it's time to actually go to church.

Do you? It means if Solyndra can't pay back the funds, the government will.

It's also helpful that the Government restructured the loans to be last in line if assets get sold off.
