I'll be doing the same.
I'm a dual citizen who was born in the USA and living in Canada since I was 5 years old. To be told that I could face fines and or jail time for not filing taxes in the USA is horseshiat. It's bad enough that I need an American passport to visit the USA instead of my Canadian passport which I have had all my life.

We're hearing that, perhaps in response to the law, more U.S. citizens overseas are deciding to renounce their citizenship....
It's not clear how many people have opted for this solution to avoid paying taxes...
Is it too much to ask for a little data or, short of that, a quote from someone knowledgeable, or an anecdote, or
something
?

This is why we need 0% taxes on rich people. Once you hit a certain level of wealth you are better than everyone else anyway. Why can't we leave the job creators alone?
I mean they already pay 5474% of the taxes in this country. They just want everyone to do their fair share. The current class war has nothing to do with greed. It's all about fairness.
Right guys?

Citizenship is just a matter of paperwork.
Laws are for the rest of us.

If they built their wealth in this country on the backs of workers and infrastructure. And then they renounce citizenship for tax reasons then I think we can get creative.
But you are from Texas so I'll try to excuse your stupidity. Please secede.

Fark 'em. Not like they haven't made most of their money by harming the majority of American families. Sending our jobs to Communist China, mortgage securities swindles and tricking us into a war in Iraq - these things benefited the 1%. They should be chased naked through the streets, tarred and feathered and their bodies burned in a dumpster.

In fact let's go a step further, for every one of the rich idiots who renounces thier citizenship, that citizenship should be given to any US Soldier who isn't a citizen already. If we run out of those, then we can start handing it out to Afghan and Iraqi translators and collaborators who risked their asses to help US troops, after that any illegal alien who can show a 10-year record of working hard, paying taxes (most do through thier EINs) and staying out of trouble with the law

The rich guy will have a boat, which he'll then take to the various marinas where there are no customs or border patrol.

That is a farked up situation. My understanding was that you could claim exception for taxes already paid(so you basically pay if you owe more than you already paid to your host country). Is that incorrect?
