I love that the vicar read from the thread at his service, and I'm so glad RabidDog's mum knows how many people loved her son (and why).

Mum is reading this now, so feel free to speak directly to her.

I was just thinking about him the other day. I still miss his helpful and hilarious comments.

You raised a fine man, Mrs. RabidDog. My condolences.

I've been a member of Fark (and a TFette when I can pay) since 2006. I'm not a prolific poster, but I've been kicking around long enough... I can say that I've seen several threads where TFers have reached out to help our own, and each one has made me proud to be a part of this community.

I was unfortunately unable to contribute, but I sure as hell wish I could have. I'll have to PM Casey and see if there's any way to donate to his daughter's fund in the coming year.

Thanks to all the Farkers who donated and made it damn dusty in here. And thanks to Casey for being simply amazing.

So sad. My deepest condolences to Carl and has family, as well as http://casey.lurvs.bacon/. He will be greatly missed.

Witchydiva: Thank you for keeping us updated, Casey. And thank you and Darkhorse for working so hard to set things as right as possible for his family.

There are too many farker-shaped holes left by those who've left us behind. I'm sure Naskar is hosting an epic party for everyone, one which I hope to join (many, many years from now).

And, thank you to everyone who pitched in with condolences and/or to cover costs for a much-needed renewal of my faith in humanity.

Hey, Drew & Company...

Really?

I mean, really?

msk, unless you really meant to say Weeners, goddamnit, Fark, the trend that was meant to counter came to an end ages ago, and clearly your regex or whatever you're using is just obnoxiously bad.

Fix this, please.

If you think that idiotic trend has ended, you don't get around enough. As for removing it, it would be like killing a piece of Fark's "soul."

casey.lurvs.bacon: Ponzholio: This should go green since the original did and I'm sure liters also contributed to the fund and would like an update.

Not only did a lot of liters contribute, but the gaming community found out and there was an online obituary for him that referenced his participation in Fark. IIRC, the obituary linked the original Fark thread and so a lot of his friends across the world, people he had met through various jobs in the gaming industry, found out about the donations and donated as well. It was an amazing thing.

Thanks for the update, Casey. It's uplifting to be reminded what again what real community is all about, whether it be in virtual or meatspace.

So many people asking about the cause, but no response at all. Any reason for that?

I just think they don't want to discuss it. Probably too painful to talk about so it might be best to just put our curiosity aside.

Seems to be more of a control issue honestly, but whatever. I think to the possibly hundreds of people that donated it would be the right thing to do.

Does it matter? We lost an active member of our fat, drunk, basement dwelling little family. It doesn't change anything to release any information on it, and it may cause pain to the family.

/Hi RabidMom, I am truly sorry that this happened for the entire family.

Well, assuming that Poland, like nearly every other free country keeps public records of deaths (including their causes) you could send a written request to whatever department handles that and get the information that way, but the family is not required to discuss it, nor should they be. I know that the human mind abhors unanswered questions, but there are alternative ways to get the answers you seek without having to trouble people who are still reeling in pain from the experience. They may not be the most economical ways, but if you really want the information, you can very likely get it. Personally, I'd just let it lie.

I have helped a tiny bit by translating some things. While I don't know all of the details I know it was an accident.

There simply are no more details available at this time.

There is actually a very good reason for that. As feckingmorons has stated, the family doesn't even know for sure.

As posted and linked earlier in this thread, a gaming community posted an online obituary that linked the original Fark thread in which his passing was announced. Because of that obituary and the link contained therein, I personally have been contacted by at least 5 different people from 3 different countries through the email contained in my Fark profile. It's really quite mind boggling when you think of probably the hundreds of thousands of people all over the world that are reading this right now. Every comment contained in this thread is available for reading by anyone in the world with access to a computer. Including his child. Every intimate detail is not necessarily for public consumption/discussion.

It's really just a matter of respect.

Oh, I assumed that you had actually read this whole thread and saw the link to the original fark thread that very clearly stated that it was an accident.

Sorta ironic given my last comment that hundreds of thousands of people all over the world are reading this.

here you go You are Borg

casey.lurvs.bacon:
You are more than welcome to email either of us at any time. However, because of several other more pressing issues surrounding wrapping up his affairs, details on the child's fund are still not hammered out. Now that the funeral arrangements are finally all taken care of and paid for, the other few remaining issues are slowly resolving and more attention can be directed towards this issue.

In other words, as stated further up thread, " the financial professionals are working on a safe transparent means so Farkers don't have to just trust a middleman. They'll make a thread about it in the future, when things get hammered out."

"safe transparent means" as in a way to donate....

I can tell you EXACTLY what he would have wanted. In his head, he would have said "I want you to pound sand up your arse" but he wouldn't have said it out loud because he wasn't rude. Out loud he would have said "I want curry and a beej, but I'll take BIE".

He was very polite.

I was wondering if enough was raised to get him home. I'm not a TFer so I've been waiting for a greenlit thread. I'm glad enough was raised with some left over for his daughter.

For as many trolls as there are everywhere online, it's nice to know that there are even more good people willing to reach out to help a fellow human. People didn't help because they were obligated, they just felt it was right. That gives me a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart.

You have no idea how many difficult it has been to be patient.

hmmmm, I need to put that another way, because patient is the LAST thing I am. This whole thing took so much longer than I ever imagined it would. Trying to remain patient has damn near driven me mad. I didnt feel it appropriate to submit a follow up thread when I had absolutely nothing to say other than "still trying"! It was around 10 a.m. this morning when I finally got confirmation that payment had been received. This whole time, I've felt a huge obligation to the community to report to you what was going on with your overwhelmingly kind donations. It was so hard being patient. I appreciate YOUR patience in waiting for the update!

I can't and won't speak for someone who was obviously a good man but who I didn't personally know. If it were me, however, I'd want you to let my best friend and my mother (who it's been indicated more than once is reading the thread) to remember me in peace, without harassing them about something that's already been clearly stated more than once.

My condolences to the family for your tragic loss and thumbs up to Fark - you guys do manage to restore my faith in humanity some days.

I'm gonna work on that when I'm a less brittle. I'll have his ashes and an audio recording of his memorial service and I plan to put together some things for her for when she's 18.

I never knew the guy, but I knew from the comments of others here that he was well-loved. I regret that I was only able to make a small donation, but I'm glad FARK came through for the whole deal. Now I wish that the leftovers will be put into good hands to give his daughter a good start.
