That reads less like schizophrenia and more like a stroke.

I have a schizophrenic uncle and for a period of 4 months in 2007 I could not sleep more than an hour each night. Not even sleeping pills helped. I started displaying paranoia and would get all sorts of unusual thoughts (some of which I recognized as unusual) racing through my head. One time I went to a movie theater during this time and could not shake the feeling that everyone was staring at me. It was what I imagine some of the positive symptoms of schizophrenia to be.

I haven't had a similar episode since. I can attest that not sleeping well for prolonged periods of time can do a number on your mind, but in my experience it didn't trigger schizophrenia, which I understand is a chronic, recurring illness.

I tried that with Barbie, my niece's black mare, and was informed in no uncertain terms just how schizophrenic horses' digestive systems are.

Thankfully I'm only narcissitic with BPD. The schizos would really freak me out but I'm too busy launching a spacecraft to the planet I just purchased with the cash I won from Obammer and Ahmedinnerjacket in a poker game hosted by my dear friend Billy Gates. Don't ask for details. It's all very hush hush...I SAID DON'T FECKING ASK OR I WILL ERASE YOU FROM HUMAN MEMORY.

If I sin I go to hell.
If I commit a mortal sin, I can be forvien if I confess.
If I accept the flesh and blood of a dead eathiopian and eat and drink of it I will ove for ever.
The planet is only 6000 years old, because the old book says so.
Angels are real.

But Don't you dare call me crazy!

Did you happen to take on a number of side jobs and instigate some underground boxing whilst in this state?

The first rule is that I do not talk about whether or not that is in fact the case. No, but seriously. The things described above actually happened.

Luckman: Well! So much for our great trip to San Diego Bob, I told you we should have gone to San Francisco.
Barris: What like going to San Francisco would not have caused this problem with the engine?
Luckman: Yeah because when youre going north, it screws this way, and when youre going south it screws that way!
Barris: If we were in Australia!

/A great movie to watch if you've ever wondered what it's like to be schizophrenic while taking LSD.

There's studies out there trying to determine if bipolar and schizophrenia are determined by the same genetic markers and some scientists are starting to claim they're basically the same illness. I'm not sure if it's a constant torture or a comes-and-goes thing with schizo patients, but speaking from the bipolar side - that sort of thing comes and goes and I've definitely had it run concurrent with prolonged lack of sleep. BUT lack of sleep is also a symptom of hypomania, which can be similar to what you described - so the question is, did lack of sleep trigger some sort of hypomania, OR did some sort of hypomania trigger the lack of sleep?

Either way, that shiat is terrifying. Even worse is the horrible regret/shame after finally coming to your senses and realizing you may have/probably offended, alienated or terrorized certain people and have a lot of 'splaining to do.

/feel like this response was too serious for this thread

I'm not sure what I had. I've been trying to figure it out for years. But I hope never to have another episode. My life was a living hell for months, I lost my girlfriend, I lost my job, I lost my ability to think rationally and it seemed like the only solution was death.

I know you're joking but Sarah Palin obviously suffers from a personality disorder, not schizophrenia.

Well, subby was equating word salad with schizophrenia, and she may be one of the finest verbal garde manger of our times.
Whether or not she suffers a personality disorder is between her and her doctors. That she speaks in word salad that can only be sometimes parsed is between her and the public record.

Now we may be closer to understanding why: a genetic mutation that triggers schizophrenia-like symptoms in mice also appears to disrupt their circadian rhythm or body clock.

At age 12, I was "angsty"; 15 "anxious with clinical depression"; then I normal'd for a while. Now, it's a touch of depression with some features of BPD, Ya know what? I think I should've gone into acting and try to bank on my apparent self-destructive and manipulative streak

If you're a science 'journalist' who apparently can't read a lab report to save your life...

/Seriously. Know what you're talking about before you start typing if you get paid to do so. Not that hard, people.
