MaudlinMutantMollusk: Dinki: 1. Your blog sucks.

2. We don't begrudge wealth. We begrudge excessive wealth gained through gaming the system. We begrudge wealthy gained at the expense of working people. We begrudge wealth that is used not to better society but to increase the income and wealth gap. We begrudge wealth used to influence our political system. We begrudge those wealthy people that think that because they had all the breaks in life, because they were born into the right family, because they were lucky and happen to be at the right place at the right time, that they are more deserving, more entitled to the rewards of this society.

3. Your blog sucks.

This^

/and has anyone pointed out your blog sucks?

I agree with all of the comments above.

I would also like to add that your blog sucks.

Are we forgetting about Jon Hunstman so goddamn quickly? Worth quite possibly more than Romney, reasonably popular with the left.

imnotadoctor: ^THIS!^ And, it's the other GOP candidates that are assailing him for being a wealthy capitalist. But, it seems that cognitive dissonance is the republican way nowadays.

Pretty much. Newt's trying to rail against rich people, while hoping everyone forgets his Tiffany's charge card.

The rich were only extremely horrible in 2004. After pile-driving the world economy into the ground and demanding a trillion dollar bailout for their screwup in 2007, that earned them Marvel Super Villain status.

Nope

But I'm sure that all sounded very convincing in your head.

Not ALL occupy liberal crazy folk say this, but many say this, and those that say it are silly people.

So try listening more to the not-silly people.

Yes that's good. But, still, it's true that SOME silly people say (1) is true. That's what I said.

Keep digging down, I'm sure you'll be out of that hole in no time.

Or get a job offer from Fox News.

Well, our economy wasn't in the shiatter then either...

I think that most people are OK with there being rich people, and I think we're even OK with a few super-rich or ultra-rich in there too. Nobody thinks we need a society where we're all forced to be equal.

The reason that this is such an issue right now is because OUR country is hurting, yet the rich are NOT paying their proportionate share. It's very easy to make the argument that the rich benefit the MOST from society, but they pay the LEAST for it.

So all we asked for is for them to pay their own way. We didn't want to raise their taxes to 90%, we didn't want to make them destitute. All we asked was that they at least pay their proportionate share, and perhaps a bit more, given that they're clearly much more able to afford it relative to so much of society right now.

You know what? They didn't. They (at least some) fought tooth and nail against the Bush tax cut expiration. They insisted that THEY were the ones being victimized when so many American families were struggling just to get by, facing catastrophic stock market losses, loosing their jobs, and being foreclosed on.

This is compounded by the fact that a small (but highly visible) group of ultra-rich bankers knowingly put their companies at risk and suffered the consequences. When THEY (the ultra-rich) were in their hour of need it was rest of US who stepped up to the plate and bailed them out. We said that for the good of society, we should not allow them to fail. We gave them a trillion-dollar bailout because we recognized that we must stand together as a society, or we must fail separately.

Then, for this kindness we showed them, they repaid us with SPITE. Not five years later and their industry is handing out record amounts of bonuses, they're obstinately refusing to cooperate with homeowners in trouble, and they're still steadfastly refusing to PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE. There are even those who are convinced that it was THEIR ability and skill that let them convince us to bail them out. They've brainwashed themselves into thinking that their success comes SOLELY from their own effort and REFUSE to acknowledge that THEY FAILED, and it was only by the grace of the American public that they didn't crumble completely.

SORRY about the CAPS but it's just SO EASY to get WORKED UP about HYPOCRITES.

monoski:

You mean sort of like how Mitt Romney is hiding millions of dollars in the Cayman Islands?

The money is not hidden. That is misleading. He is invested in funds with Cayman registry and I seriously doubt that anyone will find any evidence of taxes not being paid from any income realized.

If he's so concerned with paying the taxes he should on that money, why is it in the Caymans and not here in the United States? Money doesn't care what the weather is, and doesn't need a vacation with swaying palm trees and fruity drinks.
There is only one reason why that money is there, and that reason is TAXES. This is yet another textbook example of the types of shenanigans the more unscrupulous wealthy use to avoid paying what they should while insisting those on the lower rungs of the economic ladder pay more.

The fact that he's recognized as setting himself apart from your typical republican by not being 10 pounds of crazy in a 5 pound bag doesn't mean he's popular with the left. He just happens to be the slowest kid in the retard race the right is calling a candidate selection process.

Apparently, things change. I blame Ike.

Romney has picked a pedophile to introduce him at the Republican Convention if he wins the nomination? First I have heard of this...

Do you even know what "pedophile" means?

A man comes home from work and sees his wife packing a suitcase. "What's going on honey?" he asks.

"I'm leaving you," she says , " You work late, drink with the boys, can barely pay the bills AND you're a pedophile!"

"Pedophile?" he replies incredulously. "That's a pretty big word for a nine year-old!"

I know at least one dude who had a problem with Kerry back then:

"For over 30 years, Kerry's primary occupation has been stalking lonely heiresses. Not to get back to his combat experience, but Kerry sees a room full of wealthy widows as "a target-rich environment." This is a guy whose experience dealing with tax problems is based on spending his entire adult life being supported by rich women. What does a kept man know about taxes?

In 1970, Kerry married into the family of Julia Thorne ? a family estimated to be worth about $300 million. She got depressed, so he promptly left her and was soon seen catting around with Hollywood starlets, mostly while the cad was still married. (Apparently, JFK really was his mentor.) Thorne is well-bred enough to say nothing ill of her Lothario ex-husband. He is, after all, the father of her children ? a fact that never seemed to constrain him.

When Kerry was about to become the latest Heinz family charity, he sought to have his marriage to Thorne annulled, despite the fact that it had produced two children. It seems his second meal ticket, Teresa Heinz, wanted the first marriage annulled ? and Heinz is worth more than $700 million. Kerry claims he will stand up to powerful interests, but he can't even stand up to his wife.

Heinz made Kerry sign a prenuptial agreement, presumably aware of how careless he is with other people's property, such as other people's Vietnam War medals, which Kerry threw on the ground during a 1971 anti-war demonstration.

At pains to make Kerry sound like a normal American, his campaign has described how Kerry risked everything, mortgaging his home in Boston to help pay for his presidential campaign. Technically, Kerry took out a $6 million mortgage for "his share" of "the family's home" ? which was bought with the Heinz family fortune. (Why should he spend his own money? He didn't throw away his own medals.) I'm sure the average working stiff in Massachusetts can relate to a guy who borrows $6 million against his house to pay for TV ads."

Biden's close, as he's always been middle-class.
Jared Polis from Boulder is probablt losing more money than he's making right now (but he sold his tech company for hundreds of millions during the tech bubble so he probably doesn't care).

Rick Renzi from Arizona was worth less when he quit, but not out of any sense of nobility or ethics.
