Is it just me or does the opening paragraph say that he shot himself AFTER telling police he was shot by an unknown assailant??

Is it just me or does the opening paragraph say that he shot himself AFTER telling police he was shot by an unknown assailant??

"A 24-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg Tuesday afternoon. After initially telling Allentown police he was shot by an unknown assailant..." (followed by the details of the story or confession or whatnot) would be more cromulent, I think.
