A), The Battle of Yavin never actually reached the forest moon of Yavin IV,
B), it was a decisive loss for the empire.
C), while the Empire wrested control of the moon from the Alliance AFTER the battle, the rebels staged a successful tactical retreat and lost nothing but ground and a few friends.

It's a banana tree, not a real tree. It's like kicking down a large stalk of celery since there is no wood in a banana tree.

In his defense, you can't just drop a completely inaccurate SW reference and not expect backlash

subby shiat the bed on this one, but since it produced the infamous kickboxer tree kick scene, I'll allow it

Banana plants aren't trees. They are very squishy. I'm pretty sure I could kick one down too. Poor plant, what did it ever do to him? Produce nasty bananas?

If the battle had reached the forest moon where the rebel base was, there would have been no victory. I think subby meant Endor.

There was no Imperial victory on Endor either, and TIE fighters weren't involved in "forest" portion of the proceedings.

AUAIOMRN: Backstory: That tree killed his brother

Actually, he befriended the tree's ex girlfriend, so the tree and his gang beat him up, until the neighborhood handyman saw them and single handedly defeated the whole forest. The handyman then made this guy sand the floor, wax the car and paint the fence, and now he can finally defeat his arch rival, the tree, in the All Valley Tree Fighting Tournament.

After being defeated, the tree has gained a grudging respect for his rival and says "You're all right, LaRusso! Good match!"

The end.

Actually, subby may have gotten it partially right.

From the Star Wars Wiki:

"A few months after the Battle of Yavin, the Empire launched a number of small raids at the Yavin moon, in an attempt to destroy the Core Group of the Rebellion.

These raids were carried out by small TIE squadrons launched from a small base near the Yavin system. They often maintained reconnaissance patrols rather than retaliatory attacks. The Rebel Alliance still had to evacuate Yavin 4 to escape retaliation from the Imperial Starfleet and eventually settled on Hoth. The last raid carried out by the Empire was a crushing assault consisting of a planetary blockade along with the remnants of the 501st Legion, TIE Fighters and AT-STs. General Jan Dodonna, mastermind of Yavin's defense, was not able to escape and was captured by Imperial forces and later imprisoned.

The newly launched Executor was dispatched to destroy the Rebel fleet. But Admiral Griff's squadron of Star Destroyers came out of lightspeed and collided with the Executor. By the time the crew regained control, the last Rebel ship jumped into hyperspace."

So yes, Tie fighters did in fact attack the base on Yavin IV during the blockade of the Yavin system, but the Empire didn't win the battle, as the rebels eventually escaped.

Dear Fark Nerds (basically everyone who is reading this thread): Please go visit WOOKIEPEDIA to find out more information about the Battle of Yavin and how Tie fighters did in fact attack the rebel base on the moon Yavin IV.
