And all Obama will have to do is counter with "Romney pays a lower tax rate than you do"

The GOP candidate sure can't run on their party's triumphs. Mr. Bush, the Lesser, is an unperson. Even the ghost of St. Reagan is showing poorly these days.

Didn't watch the video. I don't know about the substance of it but I think it is a very good strategy for Obama to come out on Solyndra as much as possible right now. Good timing with the pipeline too because it makes the GOP look self-serving attacking Obama's energy policy.

Now is the time to work that issue as hard as possible and beat that horse to death before the GOP even have a candidate. Put tired sleeping point in a coma before Romney gets to have fun with it. Actually, Obama should be getting in front of his own vulnerabilities. That way, when the campaign starts in earnest, he can focus the spotlight his positives and Romney's negatives.

So the ad defends Solyndra... by not mentioning it at all. Thanks, Fox News.

Obama's ad opens by citing "secretive billionaires attacking President Obama with ads fact-checkers say are not tethered to the facts." It says that the president has added 2.7 million clean energy jobs while reducing the nation's dependence on foreign oil, calling Obama's record on ethics "unprecedented."

The voiceover ends by saying, "President Obama. Kept his promise to toughen ethics rules and strengthen America's energy economy."

I'm super excited to hear what this countering evidence is, considering none was presented by subby, or by the article.

Koch brothers accusing Obama of conducting pay-for-play politics

No, I'm pretty sure Obama forced the non-administration appointed panel to approve the DOE loan after they reworked it. I saw him run in to the hearing and threaten GITMO detention and promise political favors if they approved the loan.

Sure, it is a fraction of the overall money spent and, by and large, the rest of those loans were successful And, sure, Bush tried to get an even worse loan passed for the same company before he left office, but still.

It's Obama.

That would only work if one side or the other weren't sitting in a glass house.

The whole using facts to disprove a candidates rhetoric would be a Nuclear option in the US.

Everytime I see the Koch commercial it comes off as "The government put its trust in the Free Market and the Free Market failed." It's really weird, even if you go only by what's in the ad.

Independents don't start paying attention until roughly late August and early September. That ad was aimed at firing up the base to sign up for volunteering and more importantly driving campaign contributions.

A Dark Evil Omen: The real story: The Obama campaign is starting to pull the starter cord.

Lulz impending in 3...

I like to think of it as the point in the morning where the Obama campaign set the alarm clock two hours early because it knows it won't get up on its own unless the alarm clock's been going off long enough to piss it off enough to get out of bed to turn it off. The alarm clock just went off, and the Obama campaign knows it's time(ish...) to wake up but also knows it has two additional hours to sleep since it set the alarm clock early to accomodate just this kind of thing. So it just hits the snooze, blows off a thunderous fart, rolls over and goes back to sleep.

That's this campaign spat.

Lol. Yeah Right. They're the kind of people who would deny Godzilla was attacking even as he was stomping repeatedly on their heads.

Still, his larger point was that "investing" in Solyndra seemed like a good idea to a lot of people, not just the government. It maybe was a bad choice, but it's far from the crony collusion people accuse it of being, as evidenced by the fact that it seemed desirable to all sorts of people.

No one can deny the Solyndra thing was a fiasco. It's understandable why people raise an eyebrow over it and the appearance of corruption - it's hardly the least suspicious thing to have happened in government.

But without more evidence, that dog *probably* won't hunt. (More evidence might result in Obama really having had inappropriate dealings, or the media might find a way to destroy the man only to say "oops - our bad" long after. Wouldn't be the first time for either.)

The thing that always gives me pause to say that Obama is a party ideologue with whom you cannot reason is that he has been willing to change his stand on something with new evidence. He moderated his gun-control stance (Fast & Furious conspiracy theories notwithstanding) after the Heller decision and he changed his position on nuclear power - both towards the right. I have to respect him for that. But I suppose economics is too split a field for him to change his mind on the stimulus.

2012-01-19 11:26:28 AM
skullkrusher: it wasn't an investment. It was a loan guarantee.

You missed the point. For the private individuals that put in over a billion dollars it was an investment.

Traditionally you're right. However, Independents like me know we put him over the top in 08 and have been paying very close attention for three years. The Saved or Created claim goes over like a lead balloon. The reported jobless rate is 8.5% and everyone knows the real rate is higher than that.

Elect me because I only threw half a billion dollars of your money down a rathole (in this single case).

Well that's an interesting tactic.
