Al-Qaeda is an idea, not an organization. Anyone who's pissed off and wants to blow people up can claim to be part of it. In that sense, it's as real an organization as Anonymous. IIRC it's Arabic for 'The struggle'

There are several more or less organized franchises of it, such as Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Peninsula, Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb, and so on, which may or may not have been 'authorized' by the original core AQ, but since the main goal is simply Blowing Up Infidels they really don't need much in the way of consent from the original band.

If you want, you can go scream 'God is Great' and blow something up, and if you claim you're acting on the behalf of Al-Qaeda you're as legitimate as anyone else who does the same.

It's probably a valid question to ask if any particular explosion is a false flag pointing to AQ, but to ask if they are as a whole makes no sense.

I bet this will be worth something in a few years. I bet if you had their first issue (the one with the hologram cover) signed by Bin Laden in mint condition sealed in mylar that would be worth a ton. I wonder if they have action figures? That would be awesome. except collecting all the #2's would fill up my closet.

The romanization really isn't that important. It does in fact mean "The Base," not "The Struggle."

I don't know if you know this, but Arabic is not natively written in Roman alphanumeric characters.
That means there is no actual "correct" spelling with our alphabet.
Just like the Chinese name "Sun Tzu" is not actually spelled "Sun Tzu". It's spelled "孫子", and pronounced "swən tsɨ".

Congress had to pass the NDAA because the Supreme Court incorrectly ruled that terrorists have American Constitutional rights. Terrorists should be held indefinitely by the military, without trial, if they are a risk to the safety of the American people, no matter their citizenship.

No, apparently it was me that was confusing 'struggle' with 'base' and we're all probably in the database at this point anyway.

Anyway, the point stands, AQ is a movement, not a sinister false-flag op by the CIA to make you fear brown people. Not that they're not sinister and that they may be used as such.

Al-Queda is just wrong, though. It doesn't even sound like القاعدة is pronounced in Arabic. It's the kind of spelling you'd see from a Fox News viewer living in a trailer park in Alabama. I can't imagine a fluent Arabic speaker spelling it like that.

This pretty much makes me think every damned thing our government is doing is theater. The tortures are real, the deaths are real, the government's actions are theater.

2012-01-19 01:39:43 AM
theater indeed.

they'd have you believe that planes would be flying into buildings 24/7
unless you sacrifice your constitutional rights

I totally CANNOT understand how a bill like that gets passed in the USA
and with Obama as president....indefinite detention without due process?

all because a few people were killed cuz barbarians are at the gate?

puh-leeze.

wouldn't you trade back your freedom and non invasive plane trips
if a few thousand people had to die every few years?

much less hassle for the majority.
