Review fails without multiple paragraphs of adoration over the Savage/Steamboat match.

The championship edition DVD was a decent idea, with the pop up facts and interviews.

However, Wrestlemania 3 was a two trick pony... you had Savage/Steamboat, and Hogan/Andre. Everything else was no big deal.

Well, maybe Piper vs. Adrian Adonis. But King Kong Bundy and his two midgets vs. Hillbilly Jim and his two midgets? The Dream Team vs. the Can-Am Connection?

Honestly, in thinking about it, there was a hell of a lot of filler on all the early Wrestlemanias.

2 things I remember most from WM 3

1) The aforementioned Savage/Steamboat classic (best match ever? Probably)

2) Even though I figured out it was scripted long before then, Jake Roberts still gave me the heebies.

How bad is it that when I first read this, I thought of Bash at the Beach 2000?

Best Wrestlemania: 17
Best Rumble: 1992 (Though as a mark, I still maintain Bulldog got screwed over. There was no 'both feet must touch the floor' rule until HBK botched teh hanging from the ropes spot and let one one boot hit the floor, damn it!)

Also, I like the fact that the number of WM is the same as my age at the time. For example, WM III happened when I was 3. I was born a month and a half after Hogan first won the belt. I watched wrestling with my dad since before I remember. One of my most distinct early wrestling memories is Undertaker locking Warrior in the casket (4/13/91) when I was 7. I thought the Warrior actually died because of it. I remember loving Tugboat, who was teaming with Hogan. And oddly enough I remembered a tag team called the Ding Dongs for somereason. As a teen, I was obsessed with wrestling. (it was the nwo/attitude era) and none of my friends knew what the fark I was talking about the ding dongs. I finally decided I imagined them. Then I grew up, got the internet and BEHOLD!

Epic Austin vs Rock
Undertaker vs HHH part 1
Old guys in a battle royal
TLC 2
Shane vs Vince
Angle vs Benoit
Jericho vs Regal

Damn good choice.

Favorite single Wrestlemania moment anyone?

HBK's boyhood dream realized?
Hulk slam Andre?
Benoit and Eddie hugging in the ring?

I'm a complete sucker for two guys: Bret Hart and Edge, so these are my two favorite Wrestlemania moments (neither of which is from 17)

cdn.bleacherreport.net

Austin passing out rather than tapping. Perfect heel turn by Bret, arguably greatest double turn ever.

and

The greatest spear Edge ever delivered, putting Foley through the flaming table.

Another question. Moment in wrestling that upset or scared you more than any other?
Death of Eddie, Owen, or Benoit are kinda obvious. Tho I'm curious if people cried during any of that. People talking about Eddie during the RAW special and crying seriously made me bawl. Benoit I think I was just in shock. I had been reading the news all day before the RAW show. Owen... I don't know. I was a freshman in high school and didn't know HOW to feel. Teenage male and all that.

But I mean more scripted moments that happened when you were still a mark and thought it was "real"
Shawn collapsing on RAW in the match with Owen stands out to me.

I've never actually watched the Bret vs Austin match, other than the highlights and the end of course. I didn't get to see a lot of ppv over the years. But correct 100% on the double turn. It's so hard to pull off and those two knew damn well how to sell it. Masterpiece.

For some reason, the Edge/Foley/Fire spear seemed "meh" to me. I don't know why.

My previous post was in answer to this. As for the worst PPV question, there have been so many bad ones. Was always a WWF/WWE guy, so unfamiliar with WCW or ECW PPVs, so I'd nominate Wrestlemania 9 as the worst.

Here's the card:

Shawn Michaels vs. Tatanka
Headshrinkers vs. Steiner Brothers
Crush vs. Doink
Razor Ramon vs. Bob Backlund
Money Inc. vs. Hogan & Brutus Beefcake
Mr Perfect vs. The Narcissist
Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez
Bret vs. Yokozuna

And once that was done, Yokozuna immediately drops the title to Hulk farking Hogan.

Just a wretched, wretched event.

I remember I was bartending at a dive bar and we would watch RAW every Monday. Nobody was crying but everyone was shocked. We were all speculating on what could kill an entire family (a cause of death wasn't released yet). My theory was carbon monoxide poisoning. I forget if we found out the truth while the show was still airing or not. I always got a weird vibe from watching Benoit. Most wrestlers, even the scary ones, you'd kind of want to meet in person or even hang out with. Although I loved his wrestling, something about Benoit always unnerved me.

As far as shocking moments....When the Droz pushed Hawk off the Titantron. I didn't know what to make of that and I thought someone messed something up. The Pillman/Austin home invasion angle was crazy. I think it was the first time I saw a gun on a Wrestling program. Although I've only seen the clips on Youtube, The New Jack/Grimes fall is scary as shiat. The Steamboat/Savage thing also scarred me as a child.

Even as a 9 year old, I knew it sucked, but I cheered Hogan winning the damn thing because I was still a Hulkamaniac mark. So while I cheered it, it made no sense. Then Hogan didn't even wrestle again until he defended and lost the title back to Yokozuna months later at King of the Ring. I was going to call Summerslam 1995 the worst, but at least it had a Razor/HBK ladder match. WM 9 had no worthwhile match and was a Wrestlemania, while increases expectations. So you win.
Also while on the topic of Yoko, I've heard rumors he's going in the hall this year.

Dumb-Ass-Monkey: My first WWF PPV? WM 6.

I think I ordered every WWF PPV through '91-ish. I lost interest when they started getting to circus-y and started going to indy shows. WCW wasn't really doing it for me. That and I was embarking in my radio career, working 7 days a week getting worked like a government mule, bah gawd king. The last PPV I ordered was WM XIII just for Bret/Austin.

First and only WCW PPV I ordered was Starrcade '90. After all, who can forget the tag tournament that featured Ted Petty as a South African or Sting/Black Scorpion?

Since then, I've been going to bars carrying the PPV's to watch. That was a lot of fun when I'd go with the guys from the local promotion. It was a lot like the RAW/PPV threads here. But here, no one's been gigged with a fork. With all the PPV's now and the cheap ones at twice the price of the Big 4 back then, I just can't afford buying them at home.

Hogan vs Warrior was the greatest Wrestlemania match/moment. It was everything Mania was supposed to be. Larger than life. A crowd going nuts. Nobody knew who would win. Great match, great ending. HBK vs Hart was not a very good match especially when you consider who was in it. Hart vs Austin was far superior. Hogan vs Andre was pretty good as a moment but the match wasn't very good and there was no doubt that Hogan would win.

Also, I'm glad yesterday is over. The only thing more annoying than the 'surely this won't go green Fest' is when TFDers act shocked when one of their CJ threads goes green. 'This went green?!?'

I think the match would annoy me a lot less on DVD if they had actually kept the rights to Hillbilly's music that you referenced.

As it is now, they badly dub in some lame-ass generic banjo music for Hillbilly, which is just annoying.

In fact, the Wrestlemanias on DVD are infamous for pulling music... Demolition, Koko B. Ware, Big Boss Man, Dusty Rhodes, Hillbilly Jim... all of 'em lose their theme music because WWE wouldn't pay for it at the time.

Well, you have to understand, Wrestlemania 1 wasn't WRESTLEMANIA yet, it was just a glorified MSG card like they put on every month.

Granted, Vince did go all out with the celebrities and closed circuit TV, but for the most part, this was just another monthly MSG card. Now, it wasn't every MSG card that could bankrupt the company, but it wasn't like Vince had planned Wrestlemania for a year or more, as they do now. Also, IIRC, There were so many slapdash matches on the card to get more of the boys a bigger payday from WM 1.

All this talk and no one mentions WM XII?? Not the greatest card in the worlds, but goddam if Warrior's quick stomp of Hunter Hearst Helmsely wasnt fun, and the 'Taker/Diesel match too. plus, the epic battle between HBK and The Hitman was amazing. plus, the bodydonnas. lulz

Best Rumble: 1992 (Though as a mark, I still maintain Bulldog got screwed over. There was no 'both feet must touch the floor' rule until HBK botched teh hanging from the ropes spot and let one one boot hit the floor, damn it!)

There was actually a "both feet must touch the floor" rule in the 1995 (and absolutely worst) Rumble.. They repeated it so much that you just knew it was going to factor into the finish. But HBK botched by dragging his other foot along the floor. They covered it up afterwards by saying that the rule was actually "both feet must touch the floor at the same time." Since then they just ignore the second foot touching.

At the time it was a big deal alone if two superstars faced off on television. You didn't need a buildup. It was a lot like boxing back then. You just announced two big names were going to fight and that was it. The only buildup was for the main events. When you saw guys like Tito Santana on television they were typically facing the likes of Barry O or development talent.

favorite matches:
Any Michaels/Hart Match (except Montreal)
Michaels/Taker@WM 1&2
Any Hart/Perfect match
Any Austin/Hart match, especially WM13. It's hard enough to pull off a double turn, it's damn near impossible without using a microphone.

Best WM: 19 (half the card would main event another WM)

Worst WM: 11. As bad as it looked and sounded on television, it was even worse in person. The audience lights were too bright for the first three matches, the photographers kept getting in the way, the card sucked, and there were sound issues throughout the entire event. (Just about every entrance theme sounded the same.) People should have been (and probably were) let go from the production team following that event. Accoustically, the Hartford Civic Center is atrocious for television to begin with, but they somehow found a way to make it worse.

Hillbilly Jim: The best night of wrestling viewing for me was Regal farking over Goldberg. Absolutely hilarious.
