I remember kids doing this but differently, they would push a kid's chest with his back up against a fence until he passed out.

I never heard of anyone doing this when I was in high school. I remember "deep tens" being a somewhat popular game at parties. Take 10 really deep breaths while bending over, then stand up straight quickly. No real danger in dying unless you take a very unlucky tumble.

It's Texas so maybe your average university student there does not have the brain power to obtain it.

Normally kids go though this phase in middle school, but in college? Really?

Are they referring to auto-erotic asphyxiation while masturbating, but leaving out that detail?

Apparently it was also a problem at Temple in the early 60s.

Now 26, did it when I was 12, we would do it in class and at friends houses. Stopped doing it after friend fell down a staircase. If you can do it right it us fun to try a couple times.

We used to do a variation of that. It's the same as you described except you actively try to push as much blood to your head as possible by making a really mad face (best way I can describe it) while you're standing up. You pass out for a while and wake up as though from a really good nap and it takes a while, usually, to re-orient yourself. The only time anyone I knew ever got hurt doing it was when my roommate fell forwards instead of backwards (we would incorporate a backwards motion into our standing motion so we landed on the couch) and smashed a chair. Just shattered it. Once we could afford weed, we stopped doing it, though.

They always want to choke-block us, but we won't let them choke-block us this time. Those chokesuckers will never know what hit them. Those chokegobblers will eat this all up, until the next fad. This will lead to a chokefight if this don't settle down. We will eventually win the championship and get a big chokering.

Would anyone actually do this? No, that would be stupid.
Would teenagers find telling an idiot doing a survey with an obvious agenda/pet theory that they do this pretty damned funny, and do so in excess of 50% with increasingly hyperbolic elaborations? Apparently yes.
//Well, teenagers and drunk/high people, the two types of college students that would respond to a survey instead of telling the surveyor to fark off, they're studying.

Some kids used to do this when I was in middle school ages ago. They got in trouble for it. One of the boys turned out a little slow. I don't know what came first, the stupidity or the choking game.

It's not as if these are kids either. Hold on, they're actually doing this at a university?

I've done this before. I can see why it is considered fun. When you wake up on the floor and all your friends are hovering over you and you dont remember how you got there... well, lets just say this was before I discovered the thrills of alcohol.
I find this funny because I did it in high school. They're doing this in college? Buy some beer, buy some pot, invite some girls and play a different, more enjoyable game.

Cut them some slack. They are college kids, fresh from the farm. They don't know their syllabus from their farking transit bus. I'm sure their orientation didn't include where to score weed from, so they still need some help in that area.
Maybe if Occupy Wall Street got off its lazy ass and started looking for actual customers they could make solid customers out of these kids.

LEAVE LSU ALONE!
I once choked a chicken...about eleventy-million times! In fact, I have developed a useful communication tool between my imaginary wife and myself. If she wants to have coitus, she tugs on my penis once.....
and a hundred times if she does not want to.
I don't masturbate because anybody
makes
me. I do it, because I love it!

In middle school in the early 80's in San Jose a lot of us kids also did this.

I remember in 6th grade a lot of us were doing this same kind of shiat. That was in San Jose around 1981. I'm sure we weren't the class to discover it. Kids have been doing this kind of crap for ages. Article is stupid.

Would someone please explain to me why you would need to deter the ones who are already not doing it? Seems like they figured it out already. I also wonder how many students tried this after they learned about it from the study?
