(Some Guy) Sad Merle's been feeling Haggard lately so he canceled concert dates for the near future. The country music legend is currently recovering in a hospital, hoping to return soon   (ledger-enquirer.com) divider line 32

Lefty he can't sing the blues
All night long like he used to
The dust that Pancho bit down south
Ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low
Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go
[Ah] There ain't nobody knows.

[Well] The poets tell how Pancho fell
Lefty's livin' in a cheap hotel
The desert's quiet and Cleveland's cold
So the story ends we're told
Pancho needs your prayers it's true,
But save a few for Lefty too
He just did what he had to do
[Ah] Now he's growin' old

Video, yo (new window).

*golf clap*

It sucks, but Hag has lived a harder life than most, and definitely exceeded everyone's expectations for longevity.

I should drive to Paducah to see him. Bucket list to see Merle, running out of time.

1974?!?!?!? This list makes me feel old

"Tulare Dust" is 1:48 in length - he can get more into a sub-two minute song than most wankers can get into a whole CD.

And "I turned 21 in prison doing life without parole" is the greatest lyric EVAR.

I was lonelier than Kunta Kinte at a Merle Haggard concert...

I am actually shocked merle haggard made it this long, same with George jones, figured both would be dead long before their 70s.

Get well soon merle, we still have to arrange that concert between merle, George, hank II, and Hank III.

Merle is as close as country music can get to a renaissance man. The first to let his blues and jazz influences shine through.

Yeah, this. Although it's a decent cover, I always cringe a little when people reference Haggard and Nelson first when talking about that song.

Saw him in Fresno last October. He had the flu then too. I don't think he has long left. God bless him, he is an original.

Wow. I never heard that story before. So apparently she didn't limit herself to rock 'n rollers?
