That's not ironic. Can't think of what would be - "Sailing" by Christopher Cross, maybe?

2012-01-18 08:25:28 PM
So they were actually saved from a worse fate by the ship sinking.

The captain now goes from villain to hero!

It's definitely not "The Morning After."

The ironic part is when people were relieved when the evacuation started so didn't have to hear the whole song.

Another link is that the Titanic and the Costa Concordia were both ships.

2012-01-18 09:06:21 PM
Are you saying the ship committed suicide?

Promotional. She must be releasing a new record, or Best of cd.

She should do a concert underwater.

So now the biatch has sunk 2 ships? Someone should really do something about this.

There needs to be a Snopes piece on that entire article.

No way. My cousin's ex-girlfriend was on the ship. It's totally true.

Every time I hear that song a tear comes to my eye, wtf did Leonardo Dicaprio have to die?

/not afraid to admit that I'm a sensitive guy

I can't fight this feeling any more. Let's bring the ship to shore, and throw away the oar, foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...............

This The Posieden Adventure song is thick with the ironing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcLazPauA1c

And why no love for The Posieden Adventure anyway. It's all Titanic this and farking Titanic that. Blowing up holes in the boat to look for survivors. That's way more The Posieden Adventure than Titanic.

Great score, really like the movie, but I always cringe a little when I hear Celine.

So what you're saying is she shouldn't be allowed to sing and all of her existing recordings should be destroyed and we should never be able to hear her warble ever again?
I'll vote for that...

I highly doubt that's true. That song hasn't been popular in ages.

Just spoke with your cousin's ex-girlfriend's brother. He sounded skeptical. Mind you he was speaking Italian and I didn't understand what he was saying. But he says ciao.

If irony can be defined as "an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected",,well certainly you don't expect the ship to sink while the damn Titanic song is playing, do you? That's so coincidental, you just wouldn't expect it, and therefore it could be considered ironic.

Was there a strategically placed quartet playing on board?

I find most often when a person says "ironic" he means to say "apropos" or "fitting." Maybe there should be an apropos tag.

My comment was actually a line from Jon Lajoie's song Everyday Normal Guy part 2. First thing that pops into my head now whenever I hear anything about Leo, Celine or the titanic.

Ambivalence: I highly doubt that's true. That song hasn't been popular in ages.

It's quite probable that it's THE song to play on cruise ships, especially sinking ones. or 'Abide with Me' or whatever that band was playing as people were floating like ice cubes.

Okay, but suppose you were working in the restaurant of a suddenly less buoyant ship and had it on hand... it would be awfully tempting.

TRUE FACTS:
The Titanic sunk in 1912. It was owned by White Star Line. From wiki: "In 1934 the line merged with its chief rival, Cunard Line, which operated as a separate entity until 2005 and is now part of Carnival Corporation & PLC." The Costa Concordia was owned by Carnival Corporation & PLC and sunk on January 13, 2012, one hundred years after the Titanic. From wiki: The Titanic was "Laid down on 31 March 1909, Launched on 31 May 1911, and Completed on 31 March 1912." From wiki : "The name Concordia was intended to express the wish for "continuing harmony, unity, and peace between European nations." Also on January 13, The Standard & Poor's credit rating agency lowers its long-term credit ratings on the eurozone countries of Cyprus, Italy, Portugal, and Spain by two notches each and Austria, France, Malta, Slovakia, and Slovenia by one notch each. A sister ship of the Costa Concordia was named Costa Serena and add 1+9+1+2 =4, the exact number of days later, on January 17 that Serena Williams defeated Tamira Paszek, whose father was raised in Kenya.

The lyrics are pretty godawful. Actually IMHO it was a beautiful song if you just ignore half the lyrics.
"Near, far, wherever you are" is like a South Park parody of awfulness. And yet it's the original.

But Dion can't be blamed for that part. Google says James Horner and Will Jennings bear the guilt there.

Got a kick out of seeing the original ending to Titanic where the script was basically an Author Filibuster, old lady gives a speech about how only life is precious and then drops the necklace in the ocean. It was awkward and could easily be seen as spiteful and mean-spirited. The director came back and tried another cut and still didn't work with test audiences, so he came back and said "you people don't like my explanations, fark it, we'll just have her chuck it in the ocean with no explanation at all".

A cruise ship sinking right off the coast where ~6 people died is totally comparable to Titanic.

Seconded. There's no way in hell they play anything from Titanic aboard a cruise ship.

I'm still waiting to see the video of the captain 'tripping' into a lifeboat. He must've done it the same way I would 'trip' into an orgy with Salma Hayek and Mila Kunis.

Why in the hell would they have that song on board?

2012-01-19 12:36:02 AM
Well, in that case, I would have run the ship aground, too.

Maybe the Captain can use that as his defence in court.

It has also been revealed one of the survivors aboard the cruise ship is the grand-daughter of a woman who survived the Titanic disaster.

OK, now that's just spooky.
