I worked with a guy who was missing a pinky. He had other scars, but the pinky was the most noticeable.

I asked him one day if he ever lied about how he lost his finger, and he grinned.
"Yeah, sometimes I say I lost it to a shark, one time I lost it in practice with the Dallas Stars, lion taming, yeah, I have a lot. But saying 'I got blown up in Iraq' works pretty good for getting the chicks".
