Okay, I must ask now: Who in their right mind would follow the RIAA on a social media site??

2012-01-18 07:46:42 PM
Why would they hit the senate's site?

I think the information would be useless if, as MLK once said, we based on the character of their content.

Made damn sure that they know that WE know that this is about censoring political speech. We need to make these that asshats remember WHO they are SUPPOSED to be representing.

Fark the RIAA.

Copyright infringement is just an excuse to allow authoritarian censorship of speech that the Powers That Be find undesirable.

Don't be too hard on them. I'm kind of forgiving of the Congress members here in Texas. I'm willing to bet the only reason they supported SOPA/PIPA is because they thought it was a Mexican dessert...

I did the right thing, emailed both of my Senass-tors and also my congrescritter, but I am skeptical it will do any good.

I recall distinctly, opposition to Obamacare was running 60--30 against, 10 undecided; my Congressman's voters were
opposed 4--1, but he voted for it anyway.

We got rid of the bastard next election but it is still 1 down, 434 to go.

It's too bad that we can't take all this energy and turn it into a call to remove the ability of lobbyists being able to buy legislation.

Otherwise, even if this battle is won, the war is still going to be lost. These moments are good to see, but if used too often can cause fatigue or apathy in the public.

Taking on symptoms of bad governance is like shoveling shiat against the tide. The root cause has to be eliminated.

Yup. First they're shutting down sites streaming MLB. Then sites that have video clips of certain movies to base their blog around. Then sites that say something that somebody already said. Then sites that publish anything undesirable that's ever been said.

/bye bye Patrick Henry's words.

Keep in mind that there plenty of people - myself included - who did support the PPACA. It was a subject of debate which divided the country.

This is different. No one outside a few scared content creation companies who used to rely on being gatekeepers support this. If this passes, it'll be because hollywood money has finally become more important than democracy.

You didn't care when the government decided it could spy on you without a warrant. You didn't care when they started telling you what you could eat. You didn't care when your kids' education was turned into indoctrination. You didn't care when they were more worried about military veterans than Islamic terrorists. You didn't care when they spent so much money that our entire economic system may collapse. You didn't care when they gave billions of your money to unions and corporations that were their political contributors. You didn't care when inert cosmetic features on guns were felonies. You didn't care when they made it a farking crime to not have government approved health insurance.

All of these things were done in your name. On your behalf. To help you, protect you, take care of you. Each time you gave them more power and gave away more of your freedom. Each time you believed them when they said they were protecting you, or helping the less fortunate, or sticking it to "the rich" who "aren't paying their fair share".

Each time you applauded their efforts. Mocked those that were concerned. Called them uncaring or racist or alarmist or stupid. Each time you asked for more. You begged them to take care of you, protect you, right wrongs, enforce equality.

But now that your Internet porn and bit torrents are threatened, NOW you care?

It's too late for all that, kids. Turning off Wikipedia for a couple days isn't going to win back the freedoms we've pissed away. It isn't going to undo decades of expanding government power. They've already decided there's nothing they can't do, no law they can't pass.

We watched it happen. We let it happen. We have the country we deserve.

So go ahead, post a rant about SOPA on your blog. Link to Ron Paul's web page. Pretend you're doing something. It'll make you feel better. Then you will go back to business as usual and so will they.

Democracy in action. Isn't it beautiful?

I just find it interesting how national news is playing this down while global news has it on headlines.
