Oh. I see. Now I know why The Oatmeal hasn't had an update and/or one original post for the last month... it took em that long to write a cartoon script, animate a gif, and figure out how to blackout the main page for a single 24-hour period.

Yay. Go Oatmeal. Or something.

Or maybe it was just to deprive FunnyJunk.com of new material and revenue.

The animation is cute and all, but is it also pushing out misleading paranoia? (Honestly I'm not sure.)

My understand is that posting a photo of Oprah is not going to get your site shut down. SOPA does not eliminate the fair-use clauses for copyright involving parody/criticism. True?

Hollywood does not believe in fair use, so a single image of Oprah is just as bad as pirating an entire movie so your website should be shut down. Since SOPA eliminates the need of actually proving anything before shutting someone down, you would be farked.

Koalas are too smart to make whoopie to a goat.

Whoopie Goldberg...on the other hand...

No, they're too smart to make whoopie with Whoopie.

Let's let the justice department and the courts sort that out. In the mean time, we'll just take your site offline and break the DNS until your lawyers convince us otherwise.

I'm sure it doesn't, but it is debatable whether such a use of Oprah would be considered fair use.
From Wiki:
When Tom Forsythe appropriated Barbie dolls for his photography project "Food Chain Barbie", Mattel lost its claims of copyright and trademark infringement against him because his work effectively parodies Barbie and the values she represents.[3] But when Jeff Koons tried to justify his appropriation of Art Rogers' photograph "Puppies" in his sculpture "String of Puppies" with the same parody defense, he lost because his work was not presented as a parody of Rogers' photograph in particular, but of society at large, which was deemed insufficiently justificatory.[4]

Basically, since he is not using Oprah to parody Oprah or anything having to do with Oprah, his use of her image, despite being used in the context of social criticism, would not necessarily be considered fair use.

My Firefox home page (about:home) surprised me when it faded to black. It's built into the program and doesn't need to connect with the internet to see it. I wonder if they did some kind of auto update to make it do that.

Fair use would still exists, but now the site will be shut down first and the burden will be on you to show it was fair use.

You know, now that so many Republicans are backing away from this bill, it might not be such a bad thing after all.

How is that even remotely relevant without due process? Some lawyers paid by the Hollywood mafia would call TheOatmeal's ISP and have the site blacked out.

He made a comic on how to use literally properly, then illustrated his point with a quote from Jerry Falwell (homosexuals literally steamrolling people). He made a series of horrible cards, the birthday one (may an angry badger bite your worst enemy in the privates today) being my favorite. It's very hit-or-miss, and the best things are what make it worthwhile.

I don't see the appeal of the Traveling Pants books, but other than some joking amongst friends, I don't get Internet Angry about it.

Who would want to pirate Critters 4? I loved 1 & 2, but 3 & 4 were so awful, I want a refund on the time I spent to watch them.

Thatsthejoke.jpg. Look closely and you'll see that the other movies are also either terrible or are made-up titles that sound terrible.
