Yes, let's not try and kill SOPA because a website which we "know" promotes plagiarism opposes it. Which would you rather do: Kill the internet by regulating it to death, or side with Jimmy Wales?

That's...not the right tweet at all. There's even a screengrab in the article.

So when your information is innacurate about another source's information always being innacurate while searching a website known for innacuracies, what the hell just happened?

That doesn't seem to be a spelling error. Looks like just a play on "rout," as in attributing this disturbance to an act of the unwashed rabble while also labeling it a failure. Rather snarky, really.

Checked the online dicts and nothing about the word 'tack' being derived from the nautical word.
In context, I would still have used 'tact'.

There once was a time when patent terms and copyright terms were essentially the same. While patents have stayed short, presumably so that innovation can help society and technology progress, copyright has spiraled out of control to nearly ten times the length. My personal theory is this: With patents, there are industries on both sides (both creating and using), so there are equally strong voices with plenty of lobbyists. For example, there are pharmaceutical companies that want better patent protections for the drugs they come up with, and there are pharmaceutical companies that want patent protections to end so they can market generics. With copyrights, on the other hand, you have ginormous publishing lobbies buying Congress critters on one side, and the pitiful and ignored general American public on the other.

OMG. I think you're serious. Four things:

1. "Tack" or "tactics" would both fit in this sentence (although they mean different things).
2. "Tact" would not fit in this sentence.
3. "Tack" is, in fact, derived from sailing, where it means to switch direction into the wind
4. When you are in a hole, stop digging.

Not to flog a dead horse, or anything, but: in the context you suggest, the word "tact" is in no way usable.

"Tact" is not synonymous with "course of action" or "avenue of attack" or the like; that's "tactic". "Tact" means something much closer to "a keen sense of what to say or do to avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations".

Dictionary.com even points out (new window) that "tack" and "tact" get confused with each other all the time, but mean almost nothing similar.
