I went to my 10 year. Only about 12 people showed up out of a class of 85.

I felt kinda bad for a buddy of mine. Here he was, 28-29 years old, destroyed his life with coke, and he'd just moved back into his parent's house a week before the reunion. No job, living with his parents. Not a fun thing to tell your old classmates when they ask.

I made sure I brought up this kid Andy we went to school with. He's currently serving life in a North Carolina prison for hacking a girl to death, dismembering the body, and shoving it under the stairs in his parent's basement while they were on vacation.

Hey, made living with your mom and dad look not so bad by comparison!

Can you get that hot cheerleader you had a crush on drunk and have sex with her using Facebook?

2012-01-18 03:34:15 PM
This year is my 20th and I have no plans on going. I'm already in touch with the ones I still want to know. Facebook kind of makes it unnecessary.

2012-01-18 03:41:47 PM
Never go to those things. Nothing good can come from them. Everyone will be older, balder, fatter, uglier. Leave high school in the past. You can't go back....and that's a good thing.

2012-01-18 03:44:36 PM
I went to my 5th - big waste of time as we were all either just getting out of college or whatever.

Skipped my 10th and 15th.

Went to my 20th and 25th - It was good to catch up with everyone.

Going to my 30th this year for the same reason.

FB isn't a substitute for drinking beer and catching up...

You sound fat.

6'2 and 190 pounds.
Also not bald.
Older....of course
Uglier....well yes I graduated in 1984

High school was fun as shiat, but once I was done with it, I was done with it. There were a handful of people I kept in touch with after, but by my 40s that number has fallen to zero. So no, no reunions.

2012-01-18 03:54:47 PM
I was/am a social creature. So, I not only went to mine, I helped orgainze them. They were a freaking blast. However, we tend to do weekends at the beach with bands, booze and multiple classes. Middle-aged drunken hookups are awesome to watch come together.

2012-01-18 03:55:09 PM
I've never gone, even though my husband always wants to (he was friends w/more people in my class than his own). I've kept in touch w/a few people I knew in HS and have no desire to reconnect with any others. If I haven't felt the need to speak to you over the past 25 years, there's probably a good reason.

I've run into a few people from my graduating class over the years and am reminded every time why I don't bother to find them.

2012-01-18 03:55:35 PM
. . . now that Facebook let's you keep in touch . . .

I'm thinking you should go back to third farking grade and learn basic English before you worry about going back to your high school.

2012-01-18 04:01:07 PM
I went to mine since I was in town for a wedding.

What an utter waste of time, money and resources. The food was scarce and terrible, the music was a CD shuffler and only two people I hung out with were there.

The problem was, the people who planned it were lame in HS.

2012-01-18 04:05:04 PM
Meh, I probably won't go to mine. Everyone from highschool that I want to keep in touch with, I already do.

But I would be curious. There was guy who graduated with my class who, at 17, looked like he was in his late twenties. He was basically seen as a living god back then, girls literally swooned as he walked by. But I wonder how old he'd look when he was actually in his late twenties, and if his life was destroyed by being so good looking so young only to have his looks fade over time.

2012-01-18 04:05:37 PM
They were douche bags then and they still are, 36 years later.

2012-01-18 04:07:49 PM
Haven't been to one yet, it's been 37 years this spring. Why would I want to go party with a bunch of old people?

2012-01-18 04:14:45 PM
Marcella: You know, when you started getting invited to your ten year high school reunion, time is catching up.
Martin Q. Blank: Are you talking about a sense of my own mortality or a fear of death?
Marcella: Well, I never really thought about it quite like that.
Martin Q. Blank: Did you go to yours?
Marcella: Yes, I did. It was just as if everyone had swelled.

2012-01-18 04:19:09 PM
I went to my 20th.. it was a good enough time. Facebook and the like have probably taken some of the fun out of it. Shortly after I went to college my parents moved away from the town I went to high school in, so it was worth it for me, I'd never have any other reason to go there. My favorite art of the weekend was hanging out with a couple of people who I didn't know very well in school, when I left I felt bad that I hadn't gotten to know them better.

2012-01-18 04:33:35 PM
I was living about 500 miles from where I grew up when my 10th rolled around, and wasn't planning on going. A couple of my high school buddies who were still in town got in touch and said they were attending, so I decided to.

So, I take a few days off and drive up. Called my friends when I got home and they told me they were blowing it off. Well, fark it, I'm here, so I figured I'll go and see who got fat.

The good part is, most people still looked pretty good, and I talked to a lot of people that I hadn't thought about in ten years. If my pals had gone with me, we'd have just sat around being dicks. It was a good time, but I still haven't bothered attending any other events, although being a couple thousand miles away is part of the equation.

2012-01-18 04:46:13 PM
I didn't go to my reunion for the same reason I don't have Facebook. I have a few friends from high school with whom I want to keep in touch and I already keep in touch with them.

2012-01-18 05:03:33 PM
I didn't. Why would I want to spend an evening smiling and making small-talk with people I largely despised the first time around?

I still talk to my real friends from High School. For everybody else, I don't give a damn if they died in a fire.

2012-01-18 05:04:27 PM
Do it to laugh at the people who used to be hot and now just look weird.

2012-01-18 05:04:36 PM
I didn't go. I have kept in contact with the people I like to talk to and the rest can go fark themselves.

2012-01-18 05:06:31 PM
Think of it like this, It will give you another reason to go drink and mess with the girls you had a crush on in high school. Because I know you subby and they probably did not pay that much attention to you back then.

2012-01-18 05:06:53 PM
1) Yes, I went to my 10 year back in 2007.

2) Why? Because it was held at the Redhook Brewery, and only an idiot would turn down any opportunity to visit a brewery.

3) Maybe....but IIRC, I wasn't on Facebook back in 2007.

2012-01-18 05:07:19 PM
I had a blast at my 10 year a few years ago. I'll definitely go to the 20 year reunion. I almost didn't go and I'm glad I did.

Of course, I still live in the same town where I grew up so it wasn't much of an investment. Not sure I'd fly across the country to go.

2012-01-18 05:07:22 PM

So, did you hit em up for an 8ball?

2012-01-18 05:07:35 PM
Walker: Everyone will be older, balder, fatter, uglier.

Luckily for me, I'm skinnier and better looking (such as it is) than I was in High School. I'm probably older, though, but I don't feel it. That's the good thing with losing 40 pounds.

2012-01-18 05:07:47 PM
I didn't like those people when I *had* to spend time with them... Why would I want to pay money to see them again?

2012-01-18 05:07:48 PM
Class of 400+. This is my 20th year since graduation, and I'm not going to this one either.

The people I liked are either still my friends or have died already.

Besides, there will be a dance and I'm one of about 5 white guys in the Class of '92. No one needs to see that.

2012-01-18 05:08:05 PM
I would wait until you can properly write a sentence with correct spelling.

2012-01-18 05:08:10 PM
Went to a couple. They were ok. Not worth the money spent traveling.

Facebook's cool though - found myself friends with people from my school I never really knew while there and hardly ever talk to any of my actual "old high school buddies."

2012-01-18 05:08:18 PM
I didn't go to mine. Some people called me during the reunion but I was hammered drunk at a bar in the next city over.

2012-01-18 05:08:29 PM
Mine is this year, but I haven't decided if I'm going or not. My husband's reunion was a blast, but he had lots of friends in highschool so it was fun hearing the stories. I was pretty much a loner (not shy anymore), so I doubt 90% of the people with even remember me and those that do have me as a friend on Facebook.

It will really come down to cost. I heard a rumor they want it to be some fancy mixer thing with a family BBQ the next day, so tickets will be $45 a person. I'm not paying $90 to eat crappy food and have to be pleasant with classmates I didn't like. If it is like $15 a ticket, then maybe. Oh and if they do they stupid thing last year's class did and invite everyone solely using Facebook so that not everyone knew about the reunion then they can kiss my arse.

Mine is next year. I don't really see a point in going to the 10-year reunion. I still talk to the half a dozen or dozen people that I was close to in HS. But, I do live in the area. And, I'm a college graduate with a good job that hasn't spent time in jail, gotten hooked on drugs, or has two kids and no spouse...so I'm one of the successful ones.

Maybe I'll go to the 20th when I'm really f*cking awesome when compared to those losers.

2012-01-18 05:09:18 PM
I can pretty effectively make the haters jealous with facebook. I have a special category where they are blocked from all the normal day-to-day frustrations, and the major personal tragedies. When I'm having an awesome day sometimes I'll unblock them. So from their perspective on my facebook everything is sunny and great and I look ridiculously hot.

/petty
//it takes energy
///don't go if you don't want to

2012-01-18 05:09:35 PM
I wasn't invited.. or maybe we didn't have one.. I don't know.

If we didn't have one, boy did I go to school with a lot of losers.

If I just wasn't invited, guess I'm the loser.

Now I have a sad.

2012-01-18 05:09:43 PM
I had a surprisingly good time at my 10-year reunion. Probably 60% of my class was there, and we all had a good time hanging out, drinking, and talking.

And I say this as someone who was not popular at all in high school. All of the old bullshiat seemed very far away. I was surprised to find that they're all pretty decent folks.

/shrug
//will probably go to the 20 year reunion, too

Got an invitation to my 10 year Reunion. Less then two weeks before the event date. Allready had plane tickets to be somewhere else, didn't want to go because I hated my High School years

20 year reunion is coming up next year. Might go now that I am married.

I work for Didi, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies

did not go. hated high school.

I've always been in contact with my actual friends from high school, so why go?

Sure... you get to see people you haven't seen in 10 years. Why pass up the opportunity?

Facebook can be relatively impersonal.

2012-01-18 05:10:54 PM
nope. just didn't want to. lost touch with all of 'em and didn't want to pay $150 to hang out with people I don't know anymore.

saw pics and of the 10 people I maybe would have liked to see, only one was there.

2012-01-18 05:10:54 PM
I haven't gone to any of my high school reunions because mass murder is still not a misdemeanor in the state of Illinois.

cgraves67: I have kept in contact with the people I like to talk to and the rest can go fark themselves.

My thoughts exactly.

2012-01-18 05:10:55 PM
I did not. Wouldn't have minded reconnecting with a couple people but I doubt they would've been going anyway. But my highschool class was pretty awesome so most of us are friends-on-facebook.

The reunion ended up being canceled due to lack of interest.

2012-01-18 05:10:59 PM
El Hubby and I didn't go to our 10 year two years ago because some schmuck thought it'd be a great idea to charge $150 per person to get in. From what I understand, only about 40 people (from a graduating class of 438) went because of the overblown ticket price.

A free, informal reunion is being organized through Facebook right now. We still all want to see each other face to face, even if we know exactly what's going on with everyone else.
