In original SFII Zangief was awesome. If you got in, it was game over for the other guy.

To have a fair comparison one would need to determine what version (Original? Championship? Super? Hyper?) And then look up the frame data (startup, active, recovery on hit, recovery on block, recovery on miss) for the light, medium and heavy punch versions of each.

Currently (SF4 AE 2012), Ryu's regular fierce DP is stronger than Sagat's regular fierce DP. Sagat has a stronger EX version though and can also power up his regular uppercut with angry scar.

A dragon could kill a tiger, but an uppercut is cooler than a punch. The two are even. Do tha math.

The Dragon Punch has INSANE priority over other moves it seems, so it wins in my book for that reason. Nothing more frustrating than thinking you got a clean hit, only to get hit by a Dragon Punch just as the move initiates.

That said, the Cannon Spike is the superior rising attack.

SFIV AE nerfed the DP quite a bit. Jab DP esp is near useless now.
