What a magnificent troll. I love it so much.

Ron Paul is, and always has been, some great ideas wrapped in some terrible ones. He gets support, especially amongst the young, when people hear "End the wars and stop starting new ones, end the drug war, etc." But look at a place like Reddit as a cautionary tale - he got a lot of popularity there - until people realized he didn't believe in the separation of church and state, wanted to end the Department of Education, etc. Idiots spending weeks going "RON PAUL" until they find out what his ACTUAL stances are.

Don't get me wrong, some people legit support Ron Paul as a package deal. But there simply aren't enough of them.

Really? The most fervent and vocal segment of the GOP is suddenly going all LOLvote because of a demographic coincidence?

I have a new iphone, so I will vote for RONPAUL but because I am an iphone owner, I will vote for Colbert.

Who writes this crap?

At least it allows them to stop having to pretend to understand or care about the Federal Reserve. The market has created the more perfect candidate to represent them.

They mean Herman Cain is taking votes away from RON PAUL.

Colbert isn't even on the ballot. Stupid Liberal Media.

Brilliant.

To bad really, I would love to see Ron Paul get the nomination, just so I could watch the GOP fall to pieces. If he wasn't a fruitcake it would be very possible.

where all the paulbots who get so worked up about threads like this? hey, paulbots! Your savior is a loser who only cares about himself. You are scum to him.

In the '08 primary, Obama's people crushed Colbert's candidacy over concerns he would steal young Obama voters in a tight race.

I don't support the man at all, but I think that's absolutely absurd. I'm sure he's working in good faith, and believes in what he says.

The things he honestly believes are terrible, but he believes them honestly.

There was a fun few weeks to be had trolling RP supporters there by pointing out what he actually believes, though - I already miss it.

You show an atheist that the politician they've spent the last few months shilling wants states to be able to persecute them and the resulting cognitive dissonance is awesome.

Democrats and Independents voting for Herman Cain in the SC primary might be considered as being hostile to the electoral process by abusing loop holes in procedure.

bloobeary: I thought all of the Republican nominees were "the joke candidate."

Yeah, but Colbert is actually funny. The concept of humor to the rest doesn't extend beyond 57 states / Al Gore invented the internets.

Lost Thought 00: The market has created the more perfect candidate to represent them.

Quoting for accuracy. This whole circus is, more than much any example I can think of, the power of a completely free and unfettered market decision. Colbert has the money and desire to get out there, and if the people choose to patronize his campaign more than Paul's, then Paul should be the most obvious candidate to appreciate it.

What do you mean, until they find out what his actual stances are?

Paultards will still go "but...but...but ending the war is more important than letting black people vote!"

Paultards are under the misguided perception that all black people smoke crack, and that the war on drugs is literally the only thing that black people should care about.

And the sad thing? They somehow see this as proof of not being racist.

Infobahn: My vote can't be stolen, I give it of my own free willtm

It can't be stolen, but by the time your state gets around to having it's primary, it'll probably be worthless.

Well, I suppose it could be stolen. Maybe you don't have a picture ID, or sheriff Joe saw you walking while brown, or maybe you even get diebolded.

LasersHurt: Don't get me wrong, some people legit support Ron Paul as a package deal. But there simply aren't enough of them.

Ron Paul, as compared to Romney or Obama, is simply the most liberal choice. Sure, he has some down sides, but he is the only candidate interested in dismantling imerialism, the police state and the crooked banking system. I would gladly vote him over some faux-progressive promising to only be a little right of center. But make no mistake, those policies are what the Democrats have promised to hold check, only to push the boundaries in expanding them.

2012-01-18 05:17:04 PM
I have this weird grudging respect for Paul. Yeah he's batshiat insane, but at least he is consistently so. His insane ramblings have more conviction than anything Romney/Perry/etc will ever say.

/If Romney says he'll bomb Iran, expect a sternly worded letter.
//If it's Paul? Hide the nuke codes.
