(Global Post)   Cuba takes lead over U.S. in Civil Rights by considering gay marriage. What's next in Bizzaroworld? Bay of Pigs in America? That would probably be Rosie O'Donnell's pool   (globalpost.com) divider line 30

Until you can walk down the streets in Havana and whisper "Castro sucks" without being arrested, then I'll believe your headline, subs

Wow nice to know subby has firmly outed himself in the Right Wing Derp Camp.

This thread should be quite the trap.

Subby's headline: "Cuba takes lead over U.S. in Civil Rights by considering gay marriage."

TFA headline: "Mariela Castro says Cuba to consider civil unions for gays"

Article: "The Cuban state will consider civil unions but not gay marriage, according to AFP"

You suck big time, subby

Subby here.
Yeah, so I took a few liberties with the headline just to get a Rosie/pig joke in. They're my liberties, so be civil.

What's the difference between a civil union and a marriage, other than the name? They're just called 'civil unions' so as not to piss off the anti-gay faction. If a couple of gay dudes got a civil union, they would say they're married. If we had nation-wide civil unions, most people would call them marriages (except the fundies) and five years later nobody (except the fundies) would make a distinction. All marriages are civil unions right now, the marriage part in a church is just ornamentation pomp and completely unnecessary.

And NO, Whidbey. Not Right Wing Derp Camp. Not even close: Rabid, liberal atheist.

"Considering" a weaker version of something that's already the law in half of the states is "taking the lead" on the issue? Man, things are easy as hell in subby's world.

Of course during the height of the AIDS crisis Cuba was the ONLY country in the world to quarantine AIDS patients so this is progress.

Civil Unions are not the same as Marriage. Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity support gay civil unions but not marriage. Besides Mariela Castro is a Gay activist who, unlike most of her colleagues, can avoid getting arrested because of who her daddy is. Besides she has claimed this numerous times in the past and it never happened, so there is not reason to beleive it here. while the article claims about changes for gays in Cuba, but the only proof to that is the state run TV, according to defectors, gays are still treaty shiatty there. So we are to trust Rauls daughter who has claimed this dozens of times before over the last decade and Cuban state propaganda. Please, give me a break

No. Phoenix you can, its the rest of Maricopa that you can't. But Sheriff Joe has no jurisdiction withing Phoenix city limits. And Tuscon is more crazy that phoenix

Yea, I work with a guy who insists everywhere is better than where he lives.

Seems a pretty common belief among the easily led.

Hypothetically, one could visit Cuba by way of The Cayman Islands and the Cubans will be nice enough not to stamp your passport. Also hypothetically, Cuba has goregous beaches, beautiful women, nice people and incredible food and drink. And all without the spectacle of Carnival Cruise Lines disgorging 3000 Paula Deen fans making the daily piligrimage to The Hard Rock Cafe.

As long as the modern GOP is around, gays will have unequal rights in this country. We must sabotage the GOP to get them to confront their own homophobia.

Cuba has some serious human/civil rights problems; intrusive surveillance of citizens, minimal restrictions and oversight on police, a political class composed of the wealthy and a worker class with little or no say in government actions. There are even bills before their legislature to further remove the rights of the populace.

We should probably invade Cuba to restore their pre-fifties government and...

No, wait, that's the U.S.? Really?

Before you say "Hey, America ain't nothing like Cuba", I agree, to a point. But, we seem to be pointed toward totalitarian, authoritarian leaders... This post is probably being watched for anti-JKp'ojser9pt,____Please see your local infosoc rep for further instruction. Thank you.

Come on, this is still a country where it is illegal for a local to eat a steak unless a tourist purchases it for them.
