They look just like giant rats. Big as cats around here.

No wild animals? Rats aren't wild animals?

I have seen rats the size of a possum in the NYC subways. This is not an exaggeration.

Wait, it was *on* the train? I mean, rats on the tracks? Meh, normal. Possum on the tracks? Weird, but it's not where people are. But seeing one on the train would be farking crazy.

What the heck, I don't get a news article every time I ride the freakin' subway and I'm a pretty wild animal.

They like to go to my backyard to die. I guess because everyone around me has
dogs.

Those things are frikin mean and stanky as hell. My dog dragged one through her doggie door not too long ago. It was playing dead thankfully, so I got the kidlettes out of the room (naturally I am screaming and flailing about) so Mr. C could wrangle it properly. It never flinched the whole time but I was so scared it would spring up and get all bitey.

I saw my kids with a five gallon bucket once, they were going all over the neighborhood with it, visiting all the other kids. After a few hours I began to wonder wtf was in the bucket. Full grown oppossum, which they said was "dead" unless you really poked at it and pissed it off then it would show you all of its teeth.

Stupid yankees, its called a possum and other than their stench they are harmless.

They used to come up on our porch to eat the dog food before they built the park/homes behind our home and the dogs would chase them after I let them outside. I found out later they caught one after I smelt it, so after I cleaned up their kill by tossing it over the fence they got a trip to the vet for a check up, shots, and their teeth/mouths scrubbed.

Depends on your definition of harmless. They are not likely to cause physical harm to anyone (unless they're rabid, but that's a problem with any critter), but they will certainly get into the garbage. A non-rabid one though is certainly nothing more than a pest.

I saw one fall 30' out of a tree onto a cement sidewalk. It got up, shook it's head, then wobbled back to the trunk and climbed back up.

Head like a rock.
