The House was for it before it was against it.

Is this thing on?

They're voting to frown at the President.

Truly, the passage of this will create hundreds of thousands of jobs across a broad range of industries.

Are they still cheap political points if that kind of rhetoric costs us a more meaningful downgrade?

WHERE ARE THE JERBS????

It's like 2001 again in here.

I think I like it.

Also: SOPA can eat my nuts.

a transparent effort to embarrass the president and deride him for the $15.2 trillion national debt

Yes I'm sure he'll be very embarrassed about rooking these idiots.

Not only are they voting to frown at the president, the president has to sign it in order for them to be able to frown.

It'd be hilarious if they failed to pass it

I wonder if he'll veto their frown? I don't think that they have a veto-proof frowning majority.

The picture included in that article is classic. Those are two of the most punchable faces in politics. I'd include McConnell, but he'd hide in his shell before you could throw a punch at him.

I'm sure the GOP's attention to the problems that plague the people of this country will resonate with the voters. Nothing is of higher priority right now than a symbolic gesture of "WE DON'T LIKE FARTBONGO".

I'd like to see Obama put through another recess appointment at the same time, on the grounds that this is such a meaningless waste of time it constitutes a Congress in recess.

Curious if the GOP will add this to their list of 'jobs' bills awaiting action in the Senate...

If the Congress (House) passed a resolution that, in its entirety, read: "WE DON'T LIKE FARTBONGO", I would vote for a Republican this election cycle.

// who's running against Chris Van Hollen?
// no one, if they're smart (he usually wins ~70% reelection)
// and because they're not, it's Dave Wallace, an unknown Republican businessman from Carroll County who ran for Roscoe Bartlett (R-Redneckistan, MD)'s seat in '10

This country has turned into one of the most depressing spectacles in the history of "civilization."

2012-01-18 11:34:42 AM
It really is depressing that political awareness is so low that these likely will be useful votes to campaign on; Congress essentially passed a bill that said they would only raise the debt ceiling (a barrier that only exists because Congress is allowed to require increased costs or decreased revenues without identifying how to balance it on the Treasury's books) if they got to claim they didn't and the President did it against their valiant efforts to repel his big government fascism. This will work, and it will make forcing dysfunction to score political points that ultimately don't deliver any actual results all the more appealing.

How many times has it been proven now that the GOP run House doesn't give a shiat about America or Americans, they just want throw temper tantrums over Obama?

If he vetoes, it just goes to show they didn't frown hard enough. They should cut taxes and start another war. That will show him.

I ask again:

Am I the only person who gets instant tired-head when SOPA comes up?

It's the same thing that happens to me when someone mentions "cap-and-trade".

Up to now they've only been stalling, but it's only a matter of time until they start justifying that it's not worth passing any new legislation until the President is voted out in November. You watch.

So re-affirming "In God We Trust" as the nation's motto... that was spearheaded by the Democrats, since they have the lock on meaningless gestures, right? fark off, subtard.

Also, making "Reading the Reader's Digest highly abridged version of the Constitution" the first priority of this session of Congress: Totally the Dems.

But, hey, Republicans accusing other people of their own sins? Must be a day that ends in Y.

this is the part I do not understand:
did the HOUSE pass the national budget which was signed into law?
did the HOUSE create and pass ALL of the spending bills which were signed into law?

yes
therefore the debt is 100% the house's fault

TADA

Mission Accomplished banner on an aircraft carrier.
Voting to endorse In God We Trust to remain on our money.
Vote to endorse "Under God" in pledge.
Vote to disapprove of Obama's foreign action while voting yes to give him the money to do that action.
The STate of Texas's response to the wildfire issue is a "Day of Prayer".

Republicans invented empty symbolic gestures for political points.

Honestly, do we have any kindergarten teachers on fark that could give us some advice on how to handle this situation?

"Often lost in debt limit debates is the fact that raising the ceiling does not actually increase spending; it merely permits the U.S. government to pay its bills for money that Congress has already spent."

This should be pointed out in EVERY article about the debt-limit debate. GOP likes to pretend they're against spending increases when really the ENTIRE DEBATE is just meaningless posturing and always has been for them. They vote for the actual spending increases every time, then throw a fit only when it's time to pay the bill.
