What's a wapo? Is that some new racist thing I've never heard of?

I'm not even sure where to start with how full of nonsensical bullshiat this article is.

WaPo=Washington Post.

Did the Post decide to write the most retarded articles possible today or something?

Why should today be different?

While there has been some hue and cry across the Internet about the potential impact of a Wikipedia Blackout, the response to Wikipedia's move has been lukewarm at best.

Lukewarm by whom? Washington Post, presumably?

The article would have been better, but they couldn't look up the information they needed on Wikipedia.

Well, it's true.

People prefer to get their information from their friends than from a factual, accredited resource.

By me, because I run Firefox with NoScript which apparently gets around the blackout. I couldn't figure out why Wiki wasn't blacked out until I turned scripts on.

Wikipedia still looks like something out of the text-heavy 1990s

Yeah, that silly Wikipedia! Wapo's got FOUR competing menu systems just on this single article!

Wait, no. Five. Missed the one at the bottom. Also five different 'Twitter' buttons.

For my part, I have manifested the epicanthal folds on the eyes commonly associated with Down's Syndrome.

/Granted, though, I am Asian. However, I don't think that's a factor at play here.

What an idiot.
The basis of his whole argument is basically that Wikipedia is not social enough.
If you stretch his logic a little further, you could say your online banking website is outdated and useless because you can't 'like' the notification of when another customer pays his bills.

Though personally, I think youtube should have gone black for the day as well. that would have certainly gotten all the attention needed.

Internet companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter - companies that are essential to today's businesses and society

We're done. Cooked. Stick a fork in humanity and make the pronouncement. Whoever is the last leaving society, please turn the light off.

Meh. Google and lesser search engines are pretty essential, for the same reason Wikipedia is-- rapid access to information.

Facebook and Twitter, however, could vanish tomorrow and society would improve.

/it's not FARK either

///And more relevant

No no no. This has to be a troll. Or an attempt at humour. Or something.

For the Washington Post? No, it's never too late for that. What friggin' morons.

I'll admit it. I knew all about the Wikipedia blackout and I still tried to look things up there twice today. I'm a trained monkey.

Never really thought of Wikipedia as a "Social" site.

It's not quite down you know. My Wikipedia mobile app works just fine.

2012-01-18 01:29:45 PM
This might be more retarded than the MPAA saying that Wikipedia is abusing power.

2012-01-18 01:31:26 PM
Is it just me, or has it become harder to tell the difference between the Washington Post and the Washington Times in recent years?

2012-01-18 01:35:06 PM
This article is horrible, and an example of blatant shallowness and trendiness. Wikipedia remains one of the most popular websites in the world, and it's because of it's simplicity and refusal to jump on every trendy bandwagon that it's the single greatest website in the world. If the writer is interested in "rock star status" I bet The Situation from Jersey Shore has a twitter feed.

2012-01-18 01:35:53 PM
While other sites have been integrating social elements - even simple things such as the Facebook Like button - and updating themselves for the visual Web, Wikipedia still looks like something out of the text-heavy 1990s.

The visual web? You mean we'll be able to see pictures and stuff? On computers?

No, sorry. I don't believe that will happen in our lifetimes.

Gotta love the part about the 'text-heavy 1990s'. Luckily the article wasn't too heavy with facts, unlike those boring wikipedia pages!

2012-01-18 01:38:02 PM
Only when pro-SOPA sentiment became fashionable, with sites such as Tumblr and Reddit leading the way, did Wikipedia join the war on SOPA.

LOLWUT?

That whole damn article was damn near incomprehensible. Did Wikipedia steal one of that dork's LEGO Star Wars pieces or something?

2012-01-18 01:41:14 PM
while Twitter's Dick, Costolo has commented that the Wikipedia Blackout is all a bit of misguided foolishness.

^^this is how I read that.

2012-01-18 01:42:11 PM
WaPo is not relevant because it is printed on paper that gets ink all over my hands and it only comes once a day at a certain time.

An encyclopedia, you know, text heavy, that everybody can edit? How much more social web two oh do they want it at the WaPo?

Wa-"Poo" it is!

WaPo biatched about Wikipedia being text-heavy.

What the actual fark? Are these people five year olds? It's a farking encyclopedia, you don't get to biatch about it having too many big words and not enough pretty pictures!

exick: I'm not even sure where to start with how full of nonsensical bullshiat this article is.

Welcome to the Washington Post: Proud sailors on a sinking ship.

Funny how a newspaper dislikes "lots of text". Maybe they should put infographics and things on each front page. Maybe color code each section too while they are at it...

Actually no - it's a Facebook planted hit piece. WaPo is relying on it's "social reader" app that is tied to Facebook to keep itself alive.
