Yes, they are. However, they are cool. Honestly, they'd have to be Gundam levels of power/speed to be worth it, not BattleTech.

Mecha would be useful in one situation, however: extremely rough terrain, too rough for a tank. But even then, they'd be scaled down to be a story or so.

Any Cincinnati farkers, I've run a BT campaign for the last several years (Catalyst Demo Agent here, plus a bunch of playtesting credits for Cosmic Patrol and Leviathans). We've got a game this Saturday at Sci-fi city in Northgate mall. I need OPFOR players - so come on out if you're interested! Game on at 11am sharp (arrival requested by 10:30am); we normally play through about 6pm.

I don't think I've shared BT war stories on fark before. Any takers? For example, Cincy BT is the reason why you can't use SG-LRMs at conventions anymore, or why there's a canon UrbanMech variant with a nuclear missile attached to it.
